Hey all,

Got a quick question for ya. What are the major difference between the X7 and X9? My buddy really likes the X7 but cannot find any for used for sale.

Thanks.

What kind of skiing/boarding do you do and who usually goes with you?

Wake, Wake, Wake...................
If you solely ski, get an X7
If you wakeboard more than you ski, get an X9............

If your focus is slalom, X-7 all the way. If you don't really consider slalom all that important, look at an X-9.

The X-7/197 hull is a hardcore slalom boat. Your not going to find anything better for slalom. When at slalom speeds the boat rides up on a smaller running surface to create a great slalom wake because it has a very flat bottom.

The X-9/209 hull is based off of the old marister 210 hull. Running surface at slalom speeds is larger and the wake isn't near that of an X-7. However, with proper ballast the X-9 throws a pretty nice wakeboard wake.

The X-9 will run a little better in chop than the X-7 for cruising and the X-9 has more room inside the boat.

For starters, an X7 is simply a Prostar 197 with a tower and plumbed-in fat-sac under the rear seat, whereas the X9 is a Prostar 209 with a tower and a fat sac pkumbed-in under the rear seat and in the center ski storage locker.
With that said, there are some other minor things like the graphics package and stereo possibly, but in terms of performance they are the same as their Prostar siblings.
Beyond that, you will find that the X9 is a bigger boat (longer and wider) with a true walk-through bow as opposed the the X7 which is a step-up (not really a big deal). In terms of skiing performance, the X7 is a better ski boat and handling boat, whereas the X9 is a better wakeboard boat yet still handles very nice, but serves as more of a family type direct drive, where you plan on having more people than just 3 -4 for skiing.
Keep in mind that the all new X14 replaced the X9, so your friend may want to consider that as well. As far as finding an X7, you may also want to search for a Prostar 197 with a tower (depending on how important having a plumbed-in ballast bag is). I simply fill-up a fat sac and place it under the rear seat of my PS197 then it is a X7.
Good luck.

I totally agree that the X9/209 is not the slalom wake of the X7/197; however I think we sometimes exaggerate the difference by simply having more people and gear in the X9 than you would comfortably put in the X7.

I rarely slalom behind my X9 because too many people are in the boat. If there were just three people total and I removed some gear and 1/2 on fuel I wonder if the slalom wake wouldn't be pretty respectable. I should try it.

Bottom line though is that my kids and their friends wakeboard so that is more important. I still like the ole skool direct drive layout though.:D
