Think it's a bad idea?

My buddy has a 28' Carolina Classic Express Fisherman which has twin Volvo Commonrails. He says it will get on plane faster than my new 197. He wants me to ski behind it to show how fast it planes (and to win a bet) Anyone ever done something like this? Is this what those long skis are for?

I have got 520 hp in my PS 197. I haven't found anybody (inclueding myself) who could hang onto the handle if I jump all the way down on the throttle. So just keep that in mind when you go to see how great the hole shot is on that boat.

So, you may walk away with long arms as a result :D

It feels more like your hands are going to be ripped off, than stretching your arms out. Or atleast thats how I felt.

It's a whipple S/C. The set up is the same set up that MasterCraft put on Keith St.Onge's boat.

It is a 6.0 liter. To fit the S/C under the cal. it was taken to a stero shop and they made a 1" tall ring that the cal. sits on now. Covered the wood ring with MasterCraft carpet and unless your looking for it you don't even notice.

It tops out at 53.8 MHP on the GPS. But the cool part is that ride from 0 to 53.8 MHP that is killer.

To be honest I can't remember what prop is on it. It was changed out so many times trying to find the wright one. But I think it is a 14-21 heavy cup anything steeper than that was bumping the rev-limiter out of the hole.

Getting back to the original question:

Shoot, I'd try it. Shouldn't hurt.

And I would probably even take him up on his bet. I have a 28' Express Cruiser with 520 hp and it takes pretty long to get up on plane. Of course 640 hp will do it quicker, but I'd be a little surprised if it was quicker than a PS197. You got powerslot in your new boat? (not that it should matter)

You can't go wrong either way one helps the other.

I footed behind a 27 foot Baja and also a 37 foot Baja a few summers ago. The 27 wasn't actually that bad for the most part. It had more bubbles than an MC but that was expected.

Just get up on a fat ski and do a step off.

Where and when is this suppose to happen behind your buddy's boat?
