View Full Version : New skins for 87 Prostar... and an extra roll of ???

Just got my skins from MasterCraft for my 87 Prostar 190. I thought I had ordered one full set of skins plus an additional bottom for the drivers and observers seat. The idea was to fix the seat bottoms for right now since they are in tough shape and then replace the entire set a few years down the road when they are all in tougher shape and I have a better storage facility for the boat.

Well what I received is what I think is a full set of skins (12 pieces) in one box and a second box containing a roll of vinyl that looks like it goes for a mid-80's vintage S&S.

[Edit: Pictures two responses down on this thread]

Hey Lance, if MC doesn't want them back I'll buy them from you! Still haven't got off my butt to ship these to the guy in TN to do mine.

First Question What dealer shipped you the skins?

Be lucky that you have skins with accent colors, MC is
only doing skins prior to 1995 With base colors only.(Effective 1/05) That skin you are holding is either your back seat base or your passenger seat base.

Contact the dealer that you purchased it from and get answers from
him

I might not have been clear in my original post but the full set of skins is exactly what I ordered and includes what I think is the full set. The pieces include:

1 - Drivers seat back
1 - Drivers seat bottom
1 - Drivers inset
1 - Drivers arm rest
1 - Observers seat bottom
1 - Observers seat back
1 - Observers side (L-back)
1 - engine cover
2 - side panels (l & r)
1 - rear seat back
1 - rear seat bottom
& a bag full of piping

Every piece (with the exception of the drivers arm rest and the observers l-seat back) has the accent stripes as I would expect.

The part of the order that is wrong is that I actually wanted 2 seat bottoms for the drivers seat and 2 seat bottoms for the observers seat since they get the most use. This part of the order is what is wrong in that they only sent me one of each. What I didn't order is the roll of padded vinyl that looks like it goes in an 85 or 86. This is a roll of grey vinyl that is about 3.5 feet wide and about 5 feet long.

Bennets dropped ship these to me so I will have to get back in touch with them to straighten out.

In the worst case scenario I have one good full set of skins that are a very close match to the originals so I am happy with that.

This whole skins thing is very confusing. MC is making me a bow seat back for my '93 (with all accent colors---at least that's what I was led to believe), but wouldn't do my observer seat back. I ordered it in late Jan. I guess they had some leftover accent vinyl. The dealer I ordered it from said it was limited orders for everything earlier than '99.

Milk, they could probably add the accent colors, but they won't be using the same vinyl. I've never found an upholstery shop locally that could get the glossy marine vinyl like MC uses. Even if it's marine grade, and the same weight, the gloss is what's hard to match.

Lance, You forgot your engine cover as well... At least you got the right color. Bennetts sent me White ones  . I needed the Gray. They are making it right.... :) and sending me out a set of Gray ones. If you get to keep the Gray Vinyl.... I would like to take it off your hands for any repairs I might have down the road. I have a Gray 86 I am re-doing. Bennetts gave me a good deal on their mistake. I have a full set of White ones to use when the Gray ones wear out. Unless I find a buyer for the White/86 ones. Regards, Tom
