View Full Version : Carb Vacuum Sound?
05-08-2007, 10:03 PM
Went out on the water today and noticed a pretty loud sucking sound coming from the carb. Didn't notice any performance issues, but didn't ski/foot at all either today. Just a lazy cruise around the lake with a couple launches. As soon as I noticed the sucking I went back to shore, wanted to venture on the safe side. Any ideas??

Loud sucking sound coming from carb..
ERK...Sounds like a buying sign to me...
Don't know what that could be. Was the throttle responsive?

Any chance you had the motor box opened or off? The engine pulls in quite a bit of air and I know when I open up the motor box there is a noticable sound of rushing air.

It was more noticeable with the box off, but still heard

Did you check the PCV hose? It might have come off at the base of the carburetor or possibly popped out of the valve cover. Just had that happen to me.

Is the spark arrester clean? or maybe cleaned recently. I know that make a difference in the intake sound.

Checked the PCV hose that that was okay, the spark arrester (i'm assuming air filter type thing ;-) ) is definatley not clean. Should it be??

Sounds like a vacuum leak.......if not the PCV hose check the carb. base gasket and intake gaskets. Does it idle rougher than before you heard the sound?

Yep thats it. Take it off and clean with carb cleaner.
May not be the source of the noise, but it needs cleaned anyway.
