My wife and I decided to kick the winter blues by training for the 3rd Annual Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. Since it was our first ever endurance event, we figured we'd start 'easy' by doing the half marathon (~13.1 miles) in the walk division.

The marathon is one of the fastest growing and some claim it's in the top 10 of US marathons. It's a very scenic route and has a challenging climb within it.

The full marathon runners (~26.2 miles) started at 6:30am. We were probably 10mins behind, but about 3hrs later we were done!

This was an awesome goal to prepare for, especially during the winter! It hit home yesterday when I was carrying a 16lbs bag of pet food downstairs and realizing that I had lost a couple more pounds than that preparing for this event!

Thanks everyone! I have never been know for my endurance ( 8p ), so this was a new area for me. I never understood pushing yourself in these types of events, but once you train and do one you want to do it again and maybe at the next level.

Also, there really is no stereotypical body structure for these events (maybe moreso for the full marathon). There were people of all shapes, sizes, and ages who were kicking it!

My wife's co-worker asked us to put our names on a secondary bib. I was joking with my wife that I had never had some many women calling out my name and saying 'your looking goog Paul', 'keep going/don't stop'! :D

Here's what the course route and elevations were...
