I dont really know what is diffrent. Since I never really had the money for a new boat I never kept up with them. I was just amazed at how much I liked this boat. It did have some safety rails on the inside.

I picked my 2005 TT 197 up about 2 weeks ago and it is sitting in my boat house now. It is an absolutely beautiful boat this year. This is the 9th MC that I have owned since 92 and I must say that so far, this one is the best yet. I have put a few easy hours on her driving around the lake on the weekends, but have not yet had a chance to get behind it yet. Looking forward to this coming weekend to get my first set behind it - praying for calm winds and temps in the 70s here in Orlando. I will try to take some pics and post them up soon.

The pic above is an 04 TT 197. The 05 has a black hull up to the water line. Then it has a wide white stripe where the MC logo is. Then a thin black stripe up to the rub rail, and white deck. I will take some pics of it tonight when I get home. Unfortunately, they will be of the boat while it is hanging in the boat house in the dark, but at least you will get the idea.

I have already bent one of the swivel clevises that snap into those brackets.

I havent used the bimini on my '05 yet, but it is the same design as the one that was on my '04 TT 197. I didn't have any problems with it, but I will say that if you are taking it on and off, you have to be careful with it to keep from scratching the gelcoat on the deck.

Fly by wire, that sweet. Is the response any different? I had heard rumors that MC was looking at the same technology for the steering. I don’t know how I feel about that…. It would take me along time to trust a computer…. But I guess it will be coming someday…?

Why have you had so many boats in the past years? Why trade so often?
Good question - I am a member of the MasterCraft tournament team. This is what was formerly known as the "MC promo team". Basically in exchange for my support of the local dealer in helping them to sell more boats and taking my new boat to several ski tournaments throughout the year, I get an extremely good price on a new boat (190 or 197) every year. :D

Well, it is not an easy answer, but basically, it is by invitation only. The local dealer has the ability to recommend you to the factory tournament team and then you have to apply for it. There are only a couple tournament team members needed per state.

TTDoug can probably elaborate on this as far as MC goes, but a guy in our ski club was a promo guy for Correct Craft for several years (MC owner now). According to him, it's a whole lotta work taking the boat to all those tournaments, etc. A lot of fun, too, I'd bet.

I would agree with this. While it is extremely nice to get a new boat every year, it is a committment, but it is worth it. The hardest part about it is taking your brand new boat home from a tournament, and finding several new scratches on it! However, I have learned over the years that with the right gelcoat guy they can be returned to brand new condition after the tournament season is over! Fortunately for me, Liquid Sports Marine (Orlando MC dealer) has an excellent gelcoat / fiberglass guy!

Anybody know of any dealers in the Illinois area that would like to give me a boat to drag around to tournaments and events. You can plaster your name all over the boat as long as I get to drive it and ski behind it.
What kind of savings are we talking here boys. Is it really worth it? I don't yet have my first Mastercraft, but think that if I could get the right hook ups I would definetly spend all weekend pulling people out on the water.

One last thing, if anyone needs a driver this summer just let me know. Love to be out on the lake no matter what time of the day, but don't do much skiing anymore. Only once in a great while.
Willing to work with you if you teach me what you know. I am not a bad driver, but still looking for more seat time.

02-09-2005, 05:37 PM
I don't know a precise answer to the question about savings. But you might get an idea by looking at what the Tournament Team boats sell for at season's end. There's an 04 197 in the "marketplace" on which the asking price is $31K. It has 97 hours. Seems like there's pretty good savings to be had. But it might be easier to just buy a promo boat from one of these guys at the end of the season.

No hull change from 04 to 05 in my understanding. Some changes of note, power slot is 1.25:1 (or thereabouts), throttle by wire.
MC_TT_Doug
02-25-2005, 03:07 PM
The hull was not changed from 04 to 05, however, the underwater gear is new on the '05s. MC went to a new investment casting process for the tracking fins and rudder. They are more sleek and streamlined than the underwater gear on previous years. Nothing against the '04 197 as it is an awesome boat too, but from an "end of the rope" perspective, the '05 TT 197 skis better than my '04 did in my opinion. Wakes at 22 and 28 feels smaller and softer, and the pull feels softer and more consistent. In addition, from a driving perspective, the hole shot and accelleration on the '05 TT (1.25:1 tranny) is much better than the '04 TT edition (1.5:1 tranny). Also, as an added bonus, the baseline rpm's on the PerfectPass for 34 and 36 is about 100 rpm's less than the 2004 - therefore, using less gas.

With the new gear reduction, have you noticed less prop wash factor in the wake, or was it too small of a change to notice?
