Has anyone used the tower booms? I am between the traditional pylon boom and a tower boom for a 209. I look forward to your feedback.

SteveO - I just have to ask but this would not be Steve Olin from NH back in the late 80's would it? It would be a small world if this is the case.

have always had the trad.booms ,,,but when i bought the X9 in may ,my dealer threw in the tower boom . it has its pros and cons..
1. it looks great.
2.dont bash shins/knees on it
3.more space in the boat
4.doesn,t need to be tied down to stop bashing the gunwhale

cons..
1.tower flex's when more than 1 is on the boom(few anxious looks from me)
2.dont want anyone over 200lbs edging out on it..as tower doesn't like it too much..

all in all ,i prefer it...especially when i did not have to pay for it.

haven't seen any others in the UK though...

Go old school! I looked at the tower booms and felt as though I would rip it right off the tower.

I also agree. I would stick with the traditional boom. It also has to be much easier to drive when the leverage is in the center of the boat as opposed to the gunnel.

Tex, Thanks... Getting really close to pulling the trigger on the 209. Should be a proud owner (2002 with 330HP and 120 hours)by the end of the week.

I have the tower boom with a 2004 209. Havn't had any trouble with control yet, though I was origanilly concerned with the above remarks from others.. Still think its a good call based on boat space, looks, ease of install, etc. We walk out at 220lbs. Wicked Cool Aye!!
Good Luck

Following is a pic of the boat. It's first stop is to TXMC for a zeroflex and then a tune upgrade.

I'd rather not say how I know this - but you are not going to rip the tower boom off the tower. Your arms will rip off of your torso first, then the boom will bend.

Pros:
Everything said before

Cons:
Everything said and add that it is so solid and stable that you can 'forget' it is there and that poses a risk that you'd run it into something!
Can not adjust it up/down as quickly as trad. boom.

Gotta upgrade the stereo. Did you do any upgrades to the MC stereo? If so, any recomendations in the metroplex?

I'll say how I know. I ripped a traditional one out of a boat. Granted we were doing some pretty extreme stuff but it did happen. If it can happen on a traditional one mounted to a center pylon, it can happen with a tower mounted one.

i wish! it pulled the thing apart where it attaches to the boom. the bolts pulled all the way out. it was in a show and the driver was doing hot laps as i footed on a 2 foot pig tale. when the thing broke loose, most of it ended up back in the mc 190 boat. it scared the poor driver to death!

They do most of Texas Mastercraft's stuff. They know MC's well. They did my tower speakers and amp. The place is in the hood of Grand Prairie but the do great work.

Here's the ECI boom on my PS 209. I like the fit, but the quality is lacking...
