Hey i put my "yearly impeller" in this weekend, tightened all things up and the pump is leaking from the back side. Is there a way to screw this up? I did not do anything dff, than the last 2 yrs. It is a little more than a drip! Any help would be great.

I agree, had the same problem on my old PS 190. She needs a new pump. Search on this site for water pump issues and you will find all you need.

I got to thinking, i ordered the rear seal for the pump and am going to try it out this week. The engine has 541 hrs, I know its 17yrs old but everything else is in good working order. Skidim did not even recommend replacement, Jim how much is a pump, might be worth piece of mind. Thanks for all the replies and pms.!!

A couple years ago I had the same problem, replaced the rear seal and the leak stop for about a week. Ended up replacing the pump and when I removed the old pump there was so much play in the shaft there was no way it was going to seal. Try the new seal if it doesn't work you will know pretty soon.

From what I have heard from numerous mechanics, you shouldn't try to replace the rear seal as the never seem to seal properly afterwards and do not hold up.

Order a new pump from BAWS and save yourself the headache down the line

So is the pump hard to replace? I do all of my own wrenching, to a point so just curious. Erk, cost about what the one on ebay, is selling for 79 bucks.

No, simple, remove 2 hoses, remove allen head bolt on bottom bracket and bolts in the crankshaft pulley and then reassemble with new pump. you will probably have to loosen the belts to keep the crankshaft pully from popping off due to tension.

spend the extra money and have no worries. it hurts now but its worth it in the long run.
