Having sold quite a few things on ebay, I'd personally (not professionally) suggest a more extensive disclaimer (although you did say "as is." I can email you what I've used for many sales if you like.
Also, if I were selling something at this price, I would not use paypal as they'll take quite a bite. I'd stick with cashier's checks.
Very nice posting. You offer a Huge bonus! "Financing: Mastercraft Dealer in Fort Worth, Texas is offered to help qualifying buyer with bank financing." But check the typo.
If it does not sell this time around you should buy and sell a bunch of stuff to get you feedback rating up. It looks sketchy with only 1 feedback rating. I don't know if you are under any time pressure, but you will probably get the most money and potential sale in April-June. You can also list on Flipsell.com for free. There are a lot of inboards on there. That's actually where I found my boat listed by my local dealer.
Best of luck selling!

I belive it takes a day while they check the add copy, that way they don't get in as much trouble.

I concur with Ryan's comments. E-Bay shoppers really look at the "feedback" numbers. Also, if you don't get any bites... I would wait to relist in April. Nice ride... I'm sure you hate to let it go. From looking at other E-Bay listings... you could have some competition. You might also want to try Boat Trader. Dallas Paper is expensive... but, I got a lot of calls when I WAS going to sell my 86 MC. Good Luck.
Listing looks good.

Go get you a nice pic that is not a driveway pic if you get some good weather and use it for your main pic.
Good luck and watch the counter numbers fly
It's incredible how many people will look at your boat on ebay.
Also, nice move offering the financing at local dealer so you can use it as a trade-in!

April, I'd also suggest that you edit the title of your listing and add the words "Master Craft" to it. Ebay's search engine is picky and although we all know it's one word, not everyone does.

good catch doug, I will add to that
cram every related word you can in that title line
ski boat, wakeboard boat, mastercraft, master craft enter all that will fit and it will, help you in someone's search and yes, it takes 4-12 hours for your listing to show up in a search even though you can see it

A lot of people do things like "not Malibu Nautique" as well. I've never had it take that long to show up in the search engine, but there usually is a bit of a delay.
Also, you might want to add something to the effect that it was garaged, regularly serviced, oil changed ever _ hours, records available, never been beached, never left in water overnight, fresh water only, rubbed with a diaper, cuddled on cold nights, etc., etc. where applicable. A buyer that's done his homework (or asked on this board what to look for) will be looking for a boat that's been treated like a family member to a ridiculous degree.

The rub with a diaper is actually from Ferris Beuler's Day Off.

Speaking of taxes, I didn't see anything in there about that, i.e., Texas residents to pay _% sales tax. I don't know off hand if it applies to non-residents (I assume it doesn't), but there is a statute about sales tax on a used boat.

All kidding aside, the cloth diaper is great for wiping fiberglass. I keep at least one in the truck and one in the boat.

In CA when you buy a used vehicle of any sort, the DMV hits you for the taxes when you do the transfer, it is all on the buyer.

I put on ebay that taxes are not included. I think that should cover it.

Mark, Where can you buy cloth diaper's? Thx!

TX lets you knock down the taxable sale price of the new boat by the value of the tradein
if you take your buyer to the dealer, then the dealer can do that in & out for a couple of bucks and everyone is happy since the dealer also gets a shot at financing the new buyer
april, in my listing I mentioned, "buyer responsible for any and all taxes, transfers, shipping and registration fees" "FOB, my hometown"
most likely your buyer will be in contact with you many times and bidders arent the ones who will actually be buying your boat (if you have a reserve $ set)

Aprgriggs -
The ad looks good. The only thing I would add is to Supersize the pictures.
Also, this is just my opinion, but since I recently bought a boat (2002 X30) and I have been looking for about 8 months, I would say your starting price is too high. Taking into consideration, my 2002 X30 with the L-18, tower speakers, 3-vent heater, shower, cockpit table, dual battery, binding blaster, etc.... was only $45K.
Sorry, I know its not something you want to hear. I truely hope you get that much.
Good luck.

maybe try starting at a lower start bid, and put a reserve in to meet your needs? that way people might be more interested in starting the bidding process....

Is it better to start the price low and use a reserve or no reserve with a higher price?
MasterMason
02-04-2005, 08:39 PM
I don't know for sure, but the reserve is not public, so you might be able to encourge people to start bidding by using the reserve method... I guess there are 2 trains of thought, which is why they let you do it either way.

April,
I am curious why you are selling your boat? Will your dealer take a trade-in towards your new boat? The lower value you get towards a trade-in may be offset by less sales tax you would have to pay like Ric noted.
When I ordered my new boat the dealer did not take any trade-ins. I was successful selling my old boat on eBay and got NADA value for it. You may add to your description a why reason why you are selling the boat. It may help reel in a buyer that is on the fence and nervous about why you are selling such a new boat.
Good luck.

April,
Since I cannot buy your boat.....
you could send me your large pictures, the ones you have, and any new ones you might want to take, and I'd be more than happy to host them on a webpage and send you the links to add to your e-bay ad or any e-mail referrals you might want.
/me has got 2 gig of storage space on a server that I'm paying for and not hardly using it to it's full potential.
I know it's a small gesture, but if it'd help to get LARGE pictures posted, then more power to you:)
I know the new season will be here soon
it could be something as simple as this link....

once the picture loads, click on it to enlage it and you'll see a tremendous difference

Have you asked your dealer if you can keep the boat at his shop? Assuming you're not using it, of course. We did this, but unfortunately didn't get the boat to the dealer until late October, only a couple of weeks before the new boat arrived, so we ended up trading the old boat in anyway.
Still, the idea was that someone walks in, gets sticker shock on a new boat, and the dealer just happens to have sitting in the back... etc. No different, really, than what the dealer will go through if you trade it in. Obviously this depends on your dealer & whether or not he's got room for your boat. Ours didn't until the season was essentially over, but it might work better in the spring.
Anyway, good luck with your sale!

aprgriggs; Even though you are in warm location, doesn't look like it isn't quite boat season on Ebay yet. Still of the 12 mastercrafts on there only the cheapest 3 have good bidding action. All old 190's. I don't think the used market gets really active until the weather is close to skiing.

Good idea. I've talked to her dealer before and in fact he'd rather keep your boat there and do exactly as you described. He has a lake out the back door of the place for test drives. Pretty nice setup for walk-ins.

I'd suggest you throw it back on ebay, but make it a reserve auction and start the bidding really low, say $25,000 or less. This will give you an idea of what its true "winter worth" is to prospective buyers.

I agree with this, people get caught up in the bidding and may go for more than you originally wanted. (I've done it).

This is an extension of one of my previous "take it for what it's worth" comments. A boat is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, what someone is willing to sell it for, or what someone is not willing to sell it for.
While I know people can get caught up in the bidding, it still amazes me that people bid before the last few minutes of the auction. They're just inviting other bids and, as a result, a higher purchase price. As a seller, I say, let them bid early and often. But as a buyer, I can only presume they like to see their name on the screen.

Agreed. But logically, if there's no reserve, it's ridiculous to bid until the end of the auction (even if there are no bids). You're just asking to pay more.
All sniping does is prevent a bidder who doesn't trust ebay's proxy bid system from upping the amount of his/her bid at the last minute ("low bid remorse"). If you entered a higher proxy bid than I, sniping will not result in your losing the auction no matter how close to the end I put my bid in.
