I finally bought my first MasterCraft two weeks ago from Jim @ Bay Area Water Sports. It is a 1990 MasterCraft Tristar with about 500 hours. I had it out on Lake Lanier in Georgia for the first time last Sunday and I love it! I look forward to spending most my summer on it....or at least behind it!

Jim was fantastic at Bay Area Water Sports....I strongly recommend him if you are in the Georgia-Florida-Alabama area.

The stereo goes in tomorrow and I need a new steering wheel. Any suggestions? Below are a few pictures.

Thanks for all your assistance in helping me get a great boat!

Congrats, Stephen! Nice looking tri-star. (She would look great with a new demention tower!)

Jim @ BAWS is held in very high regard around here. (as well as some other MC dealers)

New steering wheel.......check your local speed shop, Summit.com or Jegs.com.

Welcome to Team Talk!

Beautiful boat and welcome to the TriStar family. There doesn't seem to be too many of us around. My wife and I just bought our first MC TriStar (88) at the end of last season and can't wait to get it out on the water. We just had our first child and can't wait to take him out on the water with us. Good luck, be safe, and have fun with it.

Welcome. Very nice looking boat. I too have heard some good things about BAWS and even spoke to him a few times.

For steering wheel, here's the one I have on my '90 PS190 - exact match to the original except it doesn't have the MC button in the middle. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_23748_-1

It's the Grant Challenger 470-414. I actually got mine at Pep Boys for around $40 or so.

Welcome!
Advance Auto Parts carries the Grant steering wheel that is a direct replacement for the factory wheel. Pm me if you change yours out, there are a couple tricks to do it.

Lasted a week

Again thanks and enjoy

Jimbo,
Thanks for sending me the X2 pics. However, you know me, and that particular boat is just not me. You know I can't have the same boat a thousand other people have! I do appreciate your efforts though! I talked to Cliff, and they have a red flake boat at one of their locations. I just gotta get mine sold. So if you know anybody looking for a NICE metalflake X-30, let me know! Thanks, Dog. Sure wish you could make it to CSM! Any chance?:)

I ended up ordering a Vulcano Lavezzi Steering Wheel last week, hopefully it will come in today. I'll take some pictures when I get it on...in the middle of putting in a new stereo too. I'm getting the feeling this might be an endless process of upgrades!!

Here is the wheel I got...

Tri-Stars are neat with the build in swim platform. Why did MC stop this look? I was told the tri-stars are not good for sking? and cause a big wake? Steve is yours the 190 0r 220? what engine?

I have the 190 with a Indmar 351...the wake is bigger than a prostar but still great for skiing

I sent you a pm about the new steering wheel in addition to a reply to your previous pm about removing the existing steering wheel.
The 3" dish Grant wheels shown at Jegs in Post #6 are direct replacements for the original, but anything else is in question w/o also replacing the hub.
Let us know how it turns out!

Ok, my buddy has a 1990 blue 190 with tandem trailer....great boat and it serves the purpose for being 16 years old

I got the new steering wheel put on and everything worked out great. To get the old one off, there was 1 large bold and 3 smaller bolts that just kept the wheel from spinning on the hub. I unscrewed those and pulled the wheel off and then pulled metal piece off that the three screws went into.

From there, the new wheel mounted perfectly right onto the main hub and there is a slot that keeps it from spinning on the hub. The whole job was only about 15 minutes.

Here are a few pictures. I also threw in a picture of 1 of the speakers I put in this weekend. Clarion headunit with Alpine 6.5" speakers.
