View Full Version : Tune Up Tips for 351 HO

After months of trying to decide whether or not to sell the boat, we're keeping it and doing a pretty major tune up.

Any tips from the experts would be appreciated!

I'm mostly concerned about the filters and carb - spilling fuel and removing old/installing new carb.

1. New carb (4160)
2. Fuel filters (fuel pump and water separator)
3. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor
4. Impellor
5. Acme 541

Part Numbers for the Ford 351

Oil Filter is Motorcraft FL1A, Napa Gold 1515, Fram PH-8A or comparable WIX filter (I use the Motorcraft). Lots of folks around here swear that the Fram is utter crap.

Fuel Filter Element is NAPA part # 3943 or #39413 (I've seen both)

Spin on Fuel Filter (early 90s MCs) is WIX #33225 (From NAPA)

Spark Plug Wire Set I recently bought is PCM RA121008/9. Ran about $32 and are precut with right angle boots. OEM wires are Taylor.

Distributor Cap NAPA part # AL171

Rotor is NAPA part # AL163

Spark Plugs for 351 HO are Autolite 764 (Copper), gap 0.035

Impeller is Johnson 812 (splined)

PCV Valve is NAPA Part #2-9210; or Motorcraft # EV-68 2F16 (on the advice of Tommcat, I opted for the motorcraft part).

Thanks. These will be great for future reference #'s. Ordered everything today - hard fuel line from Rambo and everything else from Ski Dim.
