Did you switch the boat trailer brakes over to electric from surge?

It seems like if the boat wanted to wag it's tail a bit, it would all be over real quick!

I've been there a couple of times. It is pretty small, but the water is usually pretty flat...nice place.

When I was a kid, my uncle had a small platform fabricated to the side of his boat tucked just under the front bow of the boat. He might of even had one on each side. I don't have any pics but do remember he has quit a bit of automotive experience. I'd have to look for pictures from the 70's to find anything for you....

liquidcut.com

They make all kinds of specialty stuff (fin gauges, trick releases, trophies, etc) and have made brackets and mounting plates for me. I'm going to see about getting them to make me some mounting brackets to relocate my ballast pumps to behind the engine like on the newer boats this winter.

If you don't mind waiting they'll cut you just about anything you need. I had them cut me a real short pair of packing nut wrenches a couple years back for my 200VRS but couldn't talk him into making more at the time. They worked really good on V-drives with limited space.

Cameron that is a great shot. How did that thing pull the boat?

What boat? Seriously, the thing was so big that you did not even feel the boat. It was back there, but did not feel like it.

Funny story. The previous renters had taken the fuse out of the gauges for the holding tanks and returned it saying that gauges stopped working a few days prior. I come to pick it up and drive it 500 miles up to the lake and open the sh!t valves to find out that the grey, black and fresh tanks were full. That's probably a few thousand pounds I could have saved! I put the fuse back in and they worked fine. The tards before me just did not want to drain the tanks and did not want to get charged for it! :(

I've never been a major Dodge fan...although I have also never owned one prior to this truck. But so far...I love it. It is a Laramie edition that is fully loaded with the exception of the flip down rear seat DVD....the sunroof interferes with that. Yes, dual exhaust and Hemi....sounds good! I'm sure it will have no problem towing the MC around...and of course, look good while doing it.

jerseydave, is that your ski site behind the rig? if so it looks glass calm and and nice place. where is it?

That's the Delaware river, Florence NJ early am in october. We had a great day, no wind, no boats. We always start early on weekends and usually finish by noon/1pm.
BTW, I'm njskier on here but changed my name after having trouble posting after replacing my computer. Sodar made corrections so now I'm good. :D

Actually, it hauls pretty well. Used to have an older X5 with the 6 cylinder, but this one with the V8 really moves it. The self-leveling air suspension makes it ride like a dream with the boat back there

Got a couple better shots of our tow rig, it is for use when the F-350's, Duramax's, and Rams are just too small. Then if the ramp is a little crowded the 150 ton helps to get you in the front of the line!

Sell the boat to me at noon for $1.00 and then you will not "OWN" your MC and y'all can fight over $0.50 a piece in mediation. Then Monday I will sell your boat back to you for the same $1.00. Then you will have like forever to put the registration back in your name and not owning the boat but having full possession of it.

Make sure all equipment is in the sale so I can sell her ski back to her for $300 bucks. Then send all profits back to you.

All silliness aside I wish you the best of luck and a smooth as possible process.

I know....every time I look it at it I go, "Man that Touareg looks so small compared to the boat!" Love it though, tows far better than the Expeditions I have had in the past. But, I only use it for towing about three or four times a year, so it fits the bill just fine.

How is the wheel base compared to the Expedition. I have towed with one for six years. It's no beast by any means, but has done well for thousands of towing miles. If it were my only vehicle, I'd definitely opt for something smaller. It was my daily driver for a year and I was glad to get a car.

It fits with about 3 inches to spare. The dealer let me take the truck home overnight before I bought it and that was one of the first things that I checked. I wasn't too worried since my Excursion fit and the Tundra is about the same size as a Buscursion.

Give it a couple thousand miles.

Also, if you have the Info Center with the mileage remaining, it is inaccurate as all hell. When the low fuel light come on for me, I know that I have 75 miles left. I have ran the truck to that point and still only put 23 gallon in the 26 gallon tank. Without towing, I have gotten 400 miles from a tank.

The Tundra low fuel light coming on early is a real issue. Check any of the Tundra forums and you will see all about it. I think they programmed it to come on with about 6 or 8 gals left in the tank.

Regarding the info center, if you don't have it, it is easy to add it. The computer is already tracking that info, just not displaying it. All you have to do is buy and install the buttons on the dash for the trip computer. It took me literally 30 seconds to add them. Pull the 'plug' out plug the wiring harness into the new switch assembly and snap it into the dash. Now, I can see how bad fuel econ I am getting. I don't have the part number for the button assy handy, but if you need it, let me know and I can dig it up.

It is an Access Vanish cover and it works great. I wanted a roll up cover due to the fact that I sometimes have stuff in there that is taller than the truck bed and I did not want to have to remove or fold up some type of hard cover. It keeps things that are in the truck bed out of sight and that, to me, is more than half of the theft deterrent. Yeah, someone could knife the cover and get in, but that would be pretty risky not knowing what is, or is not, in there.

BTW, here is the link to the MPG computer information. The part number is 84977-0C020. It worked perfectly on my 2010 Tundra Grade CM.

Yes, it will. Just got one myself. I'm at 220 miles with the first tank only 1/4 tank left :o 10 miles of that was towing.

Nice X-25. What hitch drop are you using? IMO it looks like you need to raise it a bit

I have one of those adjusting kind of hitches and it is at the highest point, the truck was just sitting in a little hole in the gravel so it looks low. The trailer is level and thats all that matters to me, plus I put a two inch leveling block on the front for normal everyday use. I hate the way Tundras sit normally without the two inch kit.

Nice X-Star Setup. We'll see you on the lake next summer. We spend quite a bit of time on Lake Tapps when it's full. Had some great runs during the month of October this year. I wish it stayed full year around.

Justjoe,

How does the avalanche tow your X2? Im looking to purchase one to tow a CSX or X25, which I know is heavier by around 700lbs.

Like a beast. Of course I was towing it with a trailblazer (that didn't work out so well).

Thanks for the info. I know the tow rating on the avalanche is only around 8000lbs and people say the CSX and X25 is a beast to tow.

I have an 07 Avalanche. I pulled an 06 X2 for two years flawlessly. I now own an XStar, which is heavier and still can pull hills at 70. Great car. The X2 is a great boat!

I was thinking the same thing!!! back to the old dog and tail theory ... if the tail is heavier than the dog, the dog wags.

nice looking rig on both ends though.

I would definitely have my brake controller set all the way to the trailer. What is that thing, an X-80?? It looks monstrous.

Actually it tows fine... It has 4 wheel (massive) electric / hydraulic disk brakes on the trailer and pulls up bloody quick with the adjuster set correctly. I never EVER drive too close to someone and always leave myself plenty of room. I find the biggest problem I have is people coming the other way driving too close to the line not realising how big the boat is until they are nearly next to me.

The Audi has plenty of power and I've moved along quite happily at 120Kph without any sway or rock at all. The boat is so heavy that it tracks perfectly behind the car and as long as the brakes on the trailer are braking harder than the car it'll pull up dead straight every time.

The old dog and tail story isn't always true. If it were you wouldn't see road trains with 4 fully loaded full length trailers behind them ;)

Interesting to hear. How is it launching that X-80- does it want to pull you down the ramp when you are launching?

Every big boat wants to pull you down the ramp, but it is still a weird feeling. I always put the car/truck in neutral or in drive once the boat starts to pull on its way down the ramp. The tow vehicle's tires slip a lot less than when you are in reverse.

Same here. My boat pulls my F150 4X4 downhill sometimes. Just wondering how exciting it is with that Audi that is half the weight of the X-80.

The spec says 6500lbs for the 6 banger. I think you'd have your hands full if you really tried it though. On the other hand your 190 in not even close to that even with a full tank of gas. Just don't forget to drain the fat sacks!:D It should so just fine. I've never done it personaly, but have had friends pull equal loads with no problem. That being said it sure wont pull like a full size/powered truck.

I've used the parking brake before. Works better than using the brakes since the fronts will just want to skid

Curious...Went on the Audi Website and I have the figures for the Q5 and Q7:

Q5 3.0 Engine:
Towing Capacity 4400 lbs.
Tongue Weight 440 lbs.

Q7 Both Gas and TDI:
Towing Capacity Tongue Weight

Trailer Hitch 5500 lbs. 550 lbs.
Trailer Hitch Package [includes tow bar] 6600 lbs. 660 lbs

MasterCraft X-80 (if that's what it is...)

Weight: 6,420 lbs.
Tandem axle trailer weight: 1,180 lbs.
Fuel capacity: 100 Gallon x 8 lbs = 800Lbs

Total 8400 lbs. + Stuff + People in boat going down ramp...

Could be 10,000lbs

Ah...Just typing out loud...

Oh! and the 4X4 Mudflaps on the Trailer is a Classy touch...

Yeah the tow rating is a little lower on the Audi than what we're actually pulling but the downward ball presurre is still well within the limits of the car. The boat is balanced perfectly on the trailer.

No problems down to the ramp.. I don't disconnect the trailer electrics so I still have the trailer brakes.. But even still, I actually turn them right down for reversing. I just swing down in one smooth motion, get her straight and then just lightly drag the brakes on the Audi. The brakes on the car are massive disks with 6 piston calipers up front and 4 (I think) on the back... No worries.

If the ramp is a shallow incline the boat does want to pull the car a little when I drive her off but it is barely anything. It's Awd and I apply the park brake and then get someone in there stomping on the brake just to make sure.

The engine is the v6 TDI. I had a chip on her to up the power and torque for the long trip from Brisbane home but I removed it once I got up here because the car doesn't really need it for short trips.

If you saw the price of F trucks or Dodges and stuff here you'd probably have a heart attack. They are ridiculously expensive for what you get. The Audi is a great everyday car and is awesome on fuel for the power it produces.

Anyway I'm building a replica H1 Hummer in my spare time and I'm getting the tow rating on it upped to handle the X80.

The Touareg handles a X-star with ease and I am sure I could do a x25 or x45 too. X-80 would be too big for my comfort level.

Touareg also handles 7700 lbs vs the 6600 for the Q7 due to the longer body and the sun-frame design.

Both trucks have a great 6 or 7 sp transmission with the 1-4 gears close together for nice stump pulling power. 5-7 are longer for good fuel economy.

On our Touareg on a steep and slippery ramp I even used 4 low and locked the centre and rear differential for true traction. Did it with no issues at all.

Most of you Ford or Chevy pickup guys (generalization) should open your eyes and see the facts of the German SUVs. They are better engineered, better built, just as heavy and can tow just as nice and do it all in style. (compared to a 1/2 pickup)

I have an 08 Chevy Silverado, crew cab. Black. It does it... in style.

You're just asking to burn up a transmission in that little VW - towing a boat 100 miles, 80 mph down the freeway (what I do)... and none of that dual axle trailer action - cheater. Put some weight on the tongue, with a single axle trailer...

I got the piss scared out of me while driving on a long dirty highway near Queensland. We were headed to Cairns. Those 4 and 5 long land trains on dirt roads drive right down the middle of the road. Since I was in a very long convoy there was a pretty big dust cloud going and I didn't see the tractor trailer until the very last second. I had to drive into a ditch to avoid him. I don't think the guy even look twice and kept right on going.

BTW: What's the deal with putting a fried egg and a beets on your hamburgers? lol I guess when you order a hamburger with everything, you mean everything!

I had a Cayenne S and when pulling my Prostar I had to keep looking back to make sure it was still there.

They are fantastic motors, both the Cayenne and Toureg which are basically the same vehicles, for towing the one to buy would probably by the V10 TDi Toureg,
