I just picked up my new tow rig last week. 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged, 510hp. So much fun to drive, but no tow package is out for it yet  Hopefully soon, going to need to get out once or twice before it gets too cold.

Very Nice!!!

The girlfriend wants one of those soooo bad. I told her that the only chance she has of getting one is if it is white. You do not see many white Rovers... period. That one looks awesome!

Is the suspension sucked in all the way on that pic? Almost looks like the thing is lowered.

Sodar! Every time I get thirsty, i think of you...lol When were you schleppin' over at the Taco Forum? Miss the ghetto? :D

Yea, after much research and even a Tow Test Drive with the Maristar, I got a great deal on this: 2008(29 miles) 4x4, Off Road Package, Locking differential

Nice truck! You need to paint it blue, though!

Yeah, I have been poking around over there for the last few weeks. I have a 2010 Tundra on order, so I have been trying to get up to speed on it. I can't wait for the new truck to get here!

I got the Painters coming over to give me an estimate. They said i can $ave Big if I don't require them to use Drop-clothes...:o

A couple years back, they had a nice Dark Blue, but the blue they curretly have didn't do anything for me.

Tundra hu. Tundra is a cool truck. Looking forward to seeing the pics. Which model/Packages/color you get?

Pics from yesterday taking the X-Star out of the lake for the season and taking it to Buckeye for Winter Storage... see you in 6 months! :( :(

Touareg tows the X-star like a champ.... air suspension keeps the truck level too... Accelleration is great as 1-4th gear is close ratio and 5-6 is spaced out for fuel ecomony. Rarely even on incline does the truck kick down more than one gear going 60-65 mph down the highway.

Mind you no mountains to climb.

When one opt's for the, Limited Trim, it bumps up the price to over $43k and the option to choose the OffRoad Package. Remember it's an OffRoad package and not a 4-Wheel package...lol

Upraded shocks, tow hooks, skidplates and different style wheels. It's only a $105 option.

We don't need 4-wheel drive in these parts. We live in a concrete jungle!

Lastly, no, my truck won't be an El Camino, but thats a real nice smart@ss response. Nice work!

I had the same style van a while back for work purposes. That Astro van was bullet proof and pulled a 01 X-Star without any problem at all, even with 200K miles on it. I finally sold the van, but it is probably still on the road today. I am pretty sure that it got such good gas mileage on the highway because everything (bearings, etc.) were worn out and very loose.

Tows like a horse, factory towing package, 3:73 Positraction differential, 21 years old, 59K miles, 15.2 mpg average over 30K towing the boat. Can't complain one bit.

Smooth as silk. Well, a lot smoother than our Sportsmobile was. If weighted down with a load, it will really smooth out. Its a 1-ton, so its bumpy by luxury car standards, but pretty damn smooth regardless, even when empty. Smoother than my Toyota corolla S or my wife's Subie Outback. Two finger driving and gobs-o-power. Me likes.

Sodar, I'd rip out the undercarriage on the first Tope I hit in Baja with that rig. In fact, mine, like all of these, sits way too low in the front, so first order of business is a leveling kit from Cognito. Second thing is a bigger fuel tank for this pig. Why GM thinks a 32 gal tank is appropriate for a big pickup is beyond me.

At least you didn't post this pic:

Actually if I recall correctly that rig went across the Barrett-Jackson Auction block at the 2009 Scottsdale auction. The sale was for the boat and trailer combined and dont quote me on this but the whole thing sold for less that 150,000. Not the colors or customization that I would choose, but if I remember correctly the selling price didnt even touch the price of the truck with the customization, thus it was pretty much free boat with purchase of truck. Since the BJ Auction is a NO RESERVE auction, it sells for the price sold on the block. Someone got a heck of a deal, ugly but a deal!

Actually if I recall correctly that rig went across the Barrett-Jackson Auction block at the 2009 Scottsdale auction. The sale was for the boat and trailer combined and dont quote me on this but the whole thing sold for less that 150,000. Humm, tempting. However, I think the 2-3" front leveling kit will probably do the trick for me. Funny, I actually looked at a truck with 22's and thought, "who needs sidewalls for a 4x4 anyway?"

When it comes to wheel time, there ain't no substitute for a nice set of Alcoa classic 17" wheels.
http://mms.businesswire.com/bwapps/mediaserver/ViewMedia?mgid=190298&vid=5&download=1

Yes - Alcoa's are the way to go. Get their polish aluminum wheels, whatever you do don't get chrome if you are driving it in the winter in the NW. That is coming from someone that has gone through 5 sets of wheels in 6 years. Three sets from chrome peeling off and two sets from structure failure. Meanwhile my father is still running the Alcoa polished classics on his 93 Suburban and they look almost new.

Thank you, sir!

I would consider it a Christmas present to myself! I've been looking for a while and I knew what I wanted. The problem was that I couldn't find it. Turned up at a local dealer and believe I got a fairly good deal on it.

As for coffee sales, I've stepped out of the day-to-day operations and accepted a position with a food broker that sells Ghirardelli chocolate. I did a few trade shows this past summer with them and they came looking for a new regional sales manager. Long story short, they offered me the position and I start Jan 4th. I'll keep the coffee shop and leave it up to my manager to run.

After pulling my PS190 for years with the a Toyota Tacoma V-6 4X4 with no problems I really did not consider that being a issue when purchasing a new boat last Sept.. About half way home from the dealer with the new x-30 I figured out it was at it limit. Here is a pic of the x-30 newest running buddy. A 2010 Armada Platium it has a 9,100 lb tow cap.. I love our '06. I know some aren't sold on the looks, but I dig it. Better brakes, engine and performance than any other big ute in my opinion. Good you got one now since they are supposedly going to be replaced with a smaller LandCruiser sized vehicle.

For years I went to MC dealers and checked them out year after year. I knew someday I'd have one. I'm now on my 4th. I figure the Land Rover was similar. I kept looking at them, hoping I'd get one. So I did. Of course its used 07 Sport with 68K. My wife says I'm never content. I'd probably buy something new/different each year if I could afford it. It's got the strangest tow hitch set up I've ever seen. The actually hitch attaches with a loc and key. If anyone has a LR Sport, please email me with any issues, concerns or advice. TIA, and best wishes,

The XStar just about maxs out the tow capacity for that explorer. (I'm looking around for an used explorer V8) Its flat around here but i don't think the V6 could do hilly areas. But I used to have an X2 like yours and that explorer pulls it with no problem. I even towed it through the appalachian mountains one summer! Everyone will say get a V8, but the explorer V6 does just fine for an X2.

Exactly what I needed to know... We will probably get a new/ slightly used SUV in the next 2-3 yrs, but a lot of the ones that get decent gas mileage have a tow capacity that max's at 5,000 lbs. ie: 2010 4 runner V-6... 2011 Grand Cherokee with the 3.6L V-6, etc... trying to stay away from V-8's... already have one that chugs gas.
Whatever we get I would like to get at least 17-18 city and 22-23+ on the highway not towing. We would like to be able to take trips into the NC mtns to some of the lakes, but my truck will not be happy and will be gear searching the entire time.

Don't completely overlook a V-8. My new F150 4X4 with a 5.4L, 3.73 gears, 6 speed transmission and max towing package gets 15-16 mpg in mixed driving. That is as good as a lot of V-6's and is a lot more competent tow vehicle.

Mine only has 5,000 miles on it. Many owners are telling me the gas mileage improves even more as you get over 5,000. I hear reports of highway mileage in the upper teens and low 20's routinely (not towing of course). I'm pretty sure that your dad's is a 4-speed auto. To my knowledge Ford has never offered a 5-speed auto in and F-150.

Just picked this up this weekend. It is a 2010 Toyota Tundra CrewMax 4WD with the 5.7l motor. This thing is a beast. It has the Rock Warrior package which gets you forged aluminum wheels and BFG A/T wheels.

I was shocked at just how much room there is in the back seat of these trucks. There is more legroom than my '07 Tahoe had in it.

Everyone remember the goverment is part owner now in G.M..All the auto makers have defects all auto makers have secrets. To cap it all the petals that are failing are made my an American Company Named C.T.S. and they are not unique to Toyota. C.T.S. sells parts to everyone.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/03/02/...appeal/?hpt=C2

id like to point out that there are many accidents with injuries that were caused by this problem. (including one in my area involving a police officer) it is a CONFIRMED defect that Toyota had evidence of, but chose to launch the vehicle anyway.

under those conditions the FBI will look into ANY and ALL companies involved.

as for the supplier, i work for an automotive supplier (unrelated to the one in question, or those parts) and i get a DAILY email about another vehicle under investigation for this defect (including FORDS) and recalls for other vehicles. there is just not as much coverage because there have not been accidents involving other vehicles yet.

i would also like to point out that Toyota buyers don't buy domestic for a reason and will more than likely go to VW or Honda before considering a GM. so if this was a gov conspiracy they would have been found out by now cause they did not think any of it through. LOL

if you do drive a vehicle affected by the recall and have not taken it in yet make sure that you can shift to neutral easily if you run into an issue. at least one of the accidents was caused because the driver was unable to shift to neutral because of an unusual shift pattern in the vehicle and could not shut the vehicle off because of a push button start system.

end rant, sorry

EDIT: this just hit my inbox as well. the feds aren't just scrutinizing toyota.

My 2008 LY6 TT 197 had no mufflers in it because it was one of the first built and the mufflers were no available yet from the vender so MC did not install them at the time. Later in the year i could have had them installed ,but Liked the it was. It sounded like you at the drag strip it was awsome!! 2009 LY6 got better had mufflers 2010 LY6 very quite and smooth as butter.

Seriously why would go from Star Trek back to the Flintstone's in technolgy and size, comfort and ski and drivabillity.
Granted in the day they were great boats but compared to now not so much.

Uhhhh, take a look at the LT1 and then at the new model TBI and MCX. The LT1's got it goin on techno wise. The newer motors went back to a distibutor ignition. LT1 had the retrofit Northstar coil packs. Rest of the engine, LT1 vs MCX is essentially the same technology, save for the red metallic paint and high rise intake.
Oh and the LT-1 doesn't have an unreliable $500 in tank fuel pump that's sportin a $40 filter that takes 2 hrs to change. Still pushes TPI injectors though, easy to access pump, gotta be way less than $400-500 to replace and $6 Autozone fuel filters.
Trans and steering are similar technology too.
As far as ski and driveability, while I've never driven a 197 and think they're a sweet boat, I'm going to go out on a limb and say an LT1-slot 190 will pull as good or better than a MCX and damn near as hard as a LY6. I've only pulled up 5 fat guys deep water start at the same time with a LT1 1:1, but I can't see needing more pones than that. And the 190 will definately cut as tight of a turn as any ski boat out there.
Guess you couldn't get Stargzer and pre plumbed ballat in 1995 though.

Size, yes, the 190 is smaller.

Really Thrall? You have had no problems with your vinyl on a '96?

My '97 (bought new) had problems starting the first summer and for years after that. The only skins that have not been replaced are the side gunwale pads.

My boat has been garage kept all its life and babied so I know that I didn't cause any extra ear and tear. (740 hrs)

I wonder if you DO have different vinyl? When considering the marine industry..anything is possible.

Yeah, seriously. Mines been garaged for the last 6+ years and wiped down regularly with vinyl destroying products like Armor All :D.
When I bought it, it wa parked on the West facing side of a garage in Phoenix AZ with a tattered cover, completely oxidized gel on that side of the boat and when I saked the owner if it had been garaged, he was honest and said "not in the last 4 years since I moved to Phx, but I have gone thru 3 covers."

Pics were taken last fall.

Ya'll think that era vinyl is bad?

Try early 2000's.. :(

My '02 X9 that has been well cared for is littered with small (less than .5") tears.

Mag_Red - I hear you bro.

When I compare to my neighbor's '85 S&S or other neighbor's '89 Tristar, that each have ZERO tears after many more years, it's a little frustrating.

Anyway- without turning this into another whiney vinyl thread- old boat is the way to go

His dealership got this 2003 F150 King Ranch on trade-in, and we bought it. His dealershipp was only one to service it, and it is loaded. 5.4L so it will do the job.

off edmunds.com

The V8 is a 4.2-liter unit that produces 350 hp and 324 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is 12/17 mpg. The V10 TDI is a 5.0-liter turbodiesel engine that makes 310 hp and a colossal 553 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is 15/20 mpg

Well here it is. I've been busy last weekend installing the hitch on it. And today i took me about 45 minutes to wire the harness. I took it down the road for the first time with the boat attached. I was pleasantly surprised on how well it towed. I have to say this is the first time ever towing a boat and not using a P/U truck. It's strange looking out the rear view mirror and seeing the boat! By the way the new trailer wheels kick butt!!!!

My wife loved her XC90....same color too. We had the T6 engine but always wanted to try the V8. How does it perform compared to the 6 cylinder? Can you tie your ipod or get satelite radio yet? That was one of the hard things for us. I ended up running a separate wire that connected to the antenna and dialed in the station on the radio. Interesting location for antenna.....in the rear headliner!

Congrats on the new ride! I think secretly my wife would trade her Lexus 400h for another XC90!

Covi

The V8 is great I drove the six before hand and thought that for towing purposes the 8 would be better. There is am MP3 jack that my ipod plugs right into (it's located in a strange spot). But that said I guess everything about it is located is strange areas. ie. antenna, battery. Battery is in the back and it's a bear to get to it. The color is called electric silver. 19" wheels.

Again the V8 can really deliver the groceries! Stiffer suspension on the R model as well.

I certainly like the long wheelbase of the CC LB Duramax for towing the boat over the shorter wheelbase of the Yukon XL Denali. No tail wagging the dog or the boat pushing the truck at all, solid as a rock with the Duramax. I felt a slight push from the boat with the Yukon XL on certain occasions. That's why I was asking about the Tahoe.

I had the 5.3L in an older Suburban before upgrading to the 6.2L. You will love the 6.2 after driving the 5.3. The 5.3 is a great little motor but the 6.2L kicks alot of arse.
