Wow, I know that's stressful!

Try keeping at least 2 vehicles and a boat clean, self employed/full time job/10 hours a day/sometimes 6-7 days a week, bills paid, yard mowed, family fed, clothed and happy for over 40 years, and still going as strong as I can!

Now that summer is winding down, I had a chance to go through some pictures. Here is our truck and boat, a 2002 Maristar pulled by a 2001 GMC Yukon XL. The wife drives the Yukon daily, but lets me drive it to pull the boat. Please note, this is our first post!

Nice rigs, I really like that combo Tbd! Those rims are really clean, not to chromed out, almost classy, and they really fit the truck to. I'm definatly a fan of the setup and the tandem trailer adds a nice touch! 8 rims can't be cheap haha especially under that boat!

We're gettin' wet this weekend, hopefully not the last run of the season so I'll try and throw some pics up soon!!

I have a color dilemna though, and need suggestions!

We've got the Maristar 225 '93, and I love the boat! I'm only 18 so of course it's a family boat, I wakeboard and kneeboard, and dad has slalomed for 20 some years, so hopefully the boat will be passed down soon(I'm crossin' my fingers!). Dilemna! The boat is the black/grey/turqoise color scheme so popular in the early 90's, and we really can't figure out what color to paint the boat! We have an '05 F-150 5.4 liter lariat and it's black with the goldish color on the bottom.

we love the black paint on the white boat, but we can't figure out how to replace the turqoise! Dad wants it gold, but I really don't know! Any suggestions?? Pics soon!

I dont have any pics of my boat, but ours is an 02 190 with black and "gold" or kahki color, looks really good, better then the ones with gray that I have seen. If it is the same color i think the Fords used to have, the setup would look sharp. The color is similiar to the Eddie Baurer edition vehicles.

Also their are topics on here about painting boats, whcih you normaly dont do, other people will be able to tell you more.

JoshBuzz
09-07-2007, 04:30 PM
yeah, it is that khaki/gold color that's on those eddie bauers, but I just don't know how that would look on the upholstery. I was thinking maybe if we painted the outside gold and just turned the upholstery black and grey, or even went from three colors to the two on the outside just black and grey. I don't know, I can't figure out what to do with it haha

I made a big mistake and moved from inside the garage to outside with the engine cover open. Took another hour to fix that problem, bent the hinges and broke both air shocks.

Always a sad day.

Oh no you dihent! I could have been worse.
I occasionally back mine in the basement with the motor cover up and it knocks it down on the floor and from inside the van it sounds and feels like I've hit a bridge abuttment.

I was suprised how well the Suburban pulled it. The Burb is a 3/4 ton with the 8.1 liter. I will probably only tow an X80 a couple of times a year. Two of the X80's that we currently have come with a dual axle, but this one has a triple. The triple pulls nicely.

Nice...... I had a 98 F-150 crew cab up until our current rig. It performed flawlessly for 75k until I traded it in on our suburban. I got a topper for it and it was great. My only complaint was poor gas mileage.

This next summer I will have to have you out on our boat again (non-official) for some riding. It is usually just my wife and kids. Would like to find some folks interested in riding locally without being complete strangers.

Roonie's I'd love to get out, after the low water situation at Owasso I did a little scouting and found a couple of other lakes which might be good options.

A buddy of mine over on your side of town just got an X-1, so if you see a black X-1 on a lake near you flag him down, he's a pretty good rider and has surpassed me since back in the day when I had a bigger bag of tricks than he. I know he'll ride Owasso but he and I have hit up Johanna, Demontriville, Elmo, Josaphine and a couple of others on the east side.

We are both Minneapolis. I live east side of St Paul and I think Corey is between St Paul and Minn or so. Corey has been in my boat before just not riding behind it.

All I have seen is a couple of Malibu's, one brand new and an older one and one early model MC. Also been out with Peason (Phil) who is on demontriville with a 03/05 MC 197. His kids are some of the best young wakeboarders I have ever seen. They cleared my X2 wake first time like they had been doing it forever.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!! I bought a 2008 Nissan Titan Pro4X Crew Cab and it's been nothing but a lemon since I bought it. I've called Nissan Consumer affairs more than 3 times a week demanding this be escalated to a manager and 4 months later I've yet to have a phone call back from one. I actually go to arbitration next week to try and force Nissan to buy this POS back. I'm sure "most" Nissan's are good vehicles since my '05 titan I never had an issue with but if you run into issues don't expect Nissan to do anything about it. I was a loyal Nissan consumer until this happened. My wife had a '06 Altima and because of all these issues I got so pi$$ed off I took a $10,000 hit just to get rid of it so I don't have to deal with them anymore.

That's what I thought, how did you drop the rear, with the Beltech kit? Mine is the same, but I have had nothing but trouble with the rear kit. I'd like to know of your experiences.

No, just got the 5.3L but it still feels pretty strong. I only have to tow about 10 miles each way. Gonna pull the boat this weekend and see how it does.

I need to find someone who has the 6.0 in the 1500 or a 6.2l escalade. My 4.8 works well, but I need to pull some more weight around.

A good friend of mine (a Ford guy) needed to replace his V-10 Excursion and had to look at the GM line due to Ford discontinuing the Excursion. He wanted to primarily focus on the towing ability so he tried out the new 08' Caddy Suburban with the 6.2L, all wheel drive. He hooked up his 30' trailer and ran it up and down the pass just outside of Denver and he was really impressed. He said the Caddy pulled it wonderfully and had no problem whatsoever on the weight.

This is a die-hard Ford guy.....he stocks his entire work fleet with Ford F250's and F350's. He has since told me he is now a "Caddy Man". He just loves the truck! I've been in it several times and it sounds just like my 8.1L suburban but feels like it gets the same pickup.

He has driven it several time skiing and has gotten 17-18 mpg. Not too bad for a full time 4wd with the 6.2L in it! My 8.1L gets 11-12 mpg.

Great to hear, Jeff!

I think I am going to wait for the 6.2l to trickle into the Tahoe/Suburban line... the escalade is a little rich for my budget...

Here is our rig. 05 Nissan Titan 4wd. So far, I've only added an AEM Dry Intake and Banks Monster Exhaust. It has no problems pulling the Maristar around.

Sodar my wife has a 07 Escalade and the 403 hp is nicceeee. I have not hooked it up to the 45 but have no doubt it would suffice. My buddy just bought an Avalance witht he 6.0 and he ordered the 4:11 or 4:54 lowest available and he said its night and day above the old chevy with the smaller motor. He pulls a Supra 20ssv which is probably similar to weight of you boat. Do you think that Escalade motor will trickle down? I bet you see flex fule and hybrid stuff taking over.

I was paying attention the other day. I was getting about 13 on the highway towing and 16-17 not towing. Not the best fuel economy in an oil crisis.

Yeah, not the most fuel efficient. But, I can't exactly tow the boat with a Honda Civic.

With the Wrangler, you must be right up against the tow limit. I believe the Unlimited only has a 3,500 lbs. tow rating. Your boat + trailer + gas + gear has got to be over that... not to mention people that might be riding in the Jeep (which basically lowers your effective tow capability).

Please share your thinking... I'm only asking because I also have an Unlimited, and I want a boat. But I was thinking I need a new tow vehicle before I can get a boat.

It is true that the Unlimited (6 cyl) is not built for towing the X2 for long periods - although it does a pretty decent job. I would tow the 190 anywhere with it no problem - it hauls the lighter boat very well.

We generally only use it to tow less than 60 miles. If the trip will be longer, I use the 1 ton Chevy.

With the overdrive disabled, the Jeep holds speeds well on the highway and rides comfortably at around 65. If there is a big head-wind or steeper grades, it begins to downshift quite often.

Also - the trailer setup makes a huge difference. The previous X2's we had came with single axle trailers. Lots of tongue weight created a rough ride and worked the motor hard.
This year, we moved to a tandem axle trailer - what a world of difference!! The Unlimited is a much happier tow vehicle when not saddled with as much of the direct load on the trailer ball.

The take-away - for short distances of smaller boats, the Unlimited is a great tow vehicle. For longer trips or travel on hilly terrain, you may want to invest in the Hemi-conversion kit....... :)

Hope this info is helpful to you-
