You mean after you spent 15K on parts and labor?

That makes less sense than the current truck.

Unless you're getting free parts and labor its not possible, if you are getting free then your boast does not have a point in reality.

If you're not familiar with the aftermarket world, then it seems like a strange concept. There are hundreds of dealers in Texas that do this, in fact it's a dealer that's buying my truck.

Exactly.. this. Dealer will buy that vehicle and then list it 10k more than what they bought it for.. and if he got a good deal on it like he said, and good deal on the parts, and did most of the install himself it's easy to come out on top

I'm running a 6in RCX lift on the stock rims with 326/60 R20 BFG ATs. This really helps keep the ride stock. Im not a huge fan of the rims sticking out past the wheelwells like the new trend you see today. I like the stock look and the ability of the dealer to use the road force balance on the rims/tires for a smooth ride.

This is my third RCX lift and I have never had one issue and the ride has always been great. Between my father and I we have had 6 RCX lifts total and never had one issue.

I don't run the crazy wide rims/tires and make sure that my lifts go on 4WD trucks........

I also don't spend $900 dollars on a lift with massive lift spacers for my 50k dollar truck lol. I really don't see why anyone would take a half ton truck off-roading in the first place, especially a nice one. If I need to tow, offroad or be a douche I have all that covered.

Mastercraftdave
03-28-2016, 10:26 PM
Right, you spent probably 2k on a lift for a 2WD truck hahaha..... Just messing with you. Is that mud I see on your truck?

Curious to know what is wrong with RCX lifts? All of the factory angles are retained and its requires zero cutting. I have never had one issue with these lifts. If I was into rock crawling or show trucks I may go with FTS but for my needs RCX has been awesome.

I don't really go off road except when I have to use it for hunting which this truck does extremely well in or when it floods I need to get back to my river house.

I almost made the switch to the 2500 but my wife hated the ride. My 1500 with the 6.2 has a stiffer ride than some of the other Silverado 1500s but it's nothing like the 2500s.

My brother in law added air ride to his 2500 and it helped ALOT but he tows everyday.

Good lord that's some money to drop on a lift.

They seem to have the same parts. FTS is definitely a beefier suspension lift but I for sure sure don't need that.

Hey man if you got you might as well spend it especially before Hilary or Bernie gets elected because half your truck will be going to the liberals......

Yeah I definitely did it to be a show truck. With the cool crossmember and the track bars and stuff, it's flashy. But you definitely pay for it lol. With the full length adjustable coilovers and rear remote resis it rides almost factory. These trucks have the best factory ride of any truck I've ever driven, so it's hard to top that.

Maybe I just have a sensitive A** but I have tried many different brands and nothing rode as smooth as stock without all the vibrations. The OEM wheels just balance better than aftermarket. Also I'm not into the whole 12-14 inch wide rims and skinny mud tires that look like they will pop off the rim.

How can you not like the white lettering on the BFGs. Its has to be the classiest most reliable tire out there. Its the only tire I have ever gotten 55-60K out of every set.

I just can't keep them clean.....

I've just had like 15 sets of afternarket wheels, and never had any problems with balancing, or ride quality. The main attribute of ride quality of a wheel is its width in comparison to the tire. Of course a 8.5 inch wide wheel on a 315 section tire will be more cushy than my 22x12s on a 12.5 inch wide tire. But I think if I found an 8.5 inch wide afternarket wheel, you won't be able to tell a difference.

Brillo Pads are the trick. Also if you spray some Super Clean Degreaser before you scrub with the Brillo Pad then you are good to do.

Also, regular washing (1/wk) will not allow the dirt to build up. :D

Maybe, I tired KMC, Fuel, and Moto Metal and all of these vibrated. Back to OEM and there is zero vibration. Maybe its just me but I like the stock beefy look, not the Mexican gangbanger/low rider feel lol.......

Dave I'll add a little to the ride discussion.. Yes quality wheels make a lot of difference.. However you can buy the best wheel in the world and if the guy running the balancer doesnt know how to set it up for that wheel then your still going to get a crappy ride..

Oe wheels tend to be easier to balance because of mounting surfaces to the balancer..

Not saying that you don't have a good balance guy just throwing that out there.. I did it for 10 years and I balance about one set a year now (my own). I can do a 10x better balance job than all of our tire/ lube techs.. Know why? Because I take pride in it and care..

Couldn't agree with you more about the guy running the Balance. I have no problem bringing my truck back if it is not perfect.

But my dealership knows how we are and they know it has to be perfect. We currently have 20 vehicles (work and personal) with that Dealership so my business is very important to them. To the average customer I could see where they don't care, but with my vehicles, the same tech does all the work on them and will only do them, no one else is allowed to touch my vehicles except for him, and the guy is awesome . We have been with this dealership for over 25yrs so they take care of us and we continue to give them business.

My wife really wanted a Jeep GC because a Tahoe/Yukon was too big for her (Her words exact) and when I bring her jeep to get serviced I cringe because of how bad the service is.

my truck isn't lifted, but it needs to be.

besides looking like a stud, is there any other gains from lifting my truck?

what are the down sides, loss of fuel economy? what about tow capacity?

Lifting gains:
Increaded ground clearance
Looks

Lifting cons:
Loss of fuel economy with larger wheels and tires
Can cause unwanted vibrations in the driveline with different angles from stock
Tow capacity can be decreased depending on lifting method for rear suspension

If you do it right, the lift will hardly effect the MPGs. With my 4.56s in my truck, I get 16.4 mixed. Too big like mine and the ground clearance you've gained is worthless due to how big the truck is to be on any trail.

Aric is right, with my lift setup on the Hwy I average 16-18 going 75-78. My truck has the 6.2L and stock gearing and I haven't noticed any affects to the towing but then again I haven't ever owned the truck when it wasn't lifted. I never have any issues with my truck.

Beautiful boat but that is crazy unsafe. Just because the tow limit says it can handle the weight doesn't mean it's safe. The short wheelbase is just not made for that boat not to mention the boat dwarfs the X5.

Shoot my X23 makes my lifted truck look small.

Short tows aren't bad but it's the long one.

Make that two votes. My 6.2L High Country drags my X23 around easily. The Denali should do the same and they are super sexy.

Interesting...someone ought to tell the automotive industry, especially the Germans, their numbers are not safe before they have a lawsuit against them :D

BMW X5 = 6,000# towing

IM not arguing that it can't be done I'm just saying it is not the safest. Since the car has such a short wheel base the boat will pull it around a lot more and being that I tow an X23 with my truck I have seen what high winds do it. I would be terrified to pull that X20 with a X5. That boat probably moves that car around like crazy on the road.

besides overcoming the initial roll resistance from the extra weight, if your re-gear with the increased tire circumference, your final gear ratio remains the same or better :-) for the intended purpose. many people alter the final drive ratio for their suited performance of the vehicle. When I went from stock to 33" on my 98 Z71, I lost mileage but wasn't spinning the engine as high on the interstate for 6.5 hours

Not that I'd tow that boat with any car-based SUV either (for mechanical longevity and potential control issues), but I do wonder what GM engineers would have to say about the effect 6" of lift has on the towing dynamics of your own tow vehicle.

I'm sure your lifted 1/2 ton still handles your boat fine, but if anything due to the higher COG, you've degraded the ability of that truck to handle your boat in an emergency.

I'm sure you've taken that into account and are comfortable with that compromise, similar to the gentleman towing his X20 short distances also being comfortable with his own choice.

BTW, great looking truck! I thinks the stock wheels and tires with some sidewall look 10x better than the trendy, goofy looking low profile tires and over-stylized wide wheels seen on many trucks today:).

After towing the X2 with a Toyota Kluger (Highlander) decided that an upgraded tug was in order as it was on the limit. . Replaced it with a 2011 twin turbo diesel 4.5L Landcruiser and towing is now a dream. Unfortunately the houseboat being built behind it is not mine but is looking an impressive toy for the owners.
Nice ride, would love to see the tow rig for that houseboat , yikes that thing is huge.

* I still cannot believe how much smaller it looks on a single axle vs our tandem. Better behind the AUDI though to have it lower profile. (IMO)

How does the Audi tow over Snoqualmie (I assume)? TDI?
Hills in WA are brutal towing.....

I came from an Infiniti QX56 to this TDI Q7. Tows excellent. Very pleased. We actually tow over Stevens Pass to Chelan area. This weekend was my first trip with the Diesel AUDI over the pass and it handled perfectly. More power than I need and MPG was good. I got 13.7 going on the uphill side of the pass an upon arrival my average was 15.8. Couldn't be happier! I got 7mpg with the Infiniti towing and 13.6 around town not towing.
I have towed the boat with our F250, the QX56 and now this Q7. To be fair, there is no comparison to towing a boat with a Truck vs an SUV like this. You can feel the boat more but it's not bad. Need a little longer to stop for sure. And our new boat is a single axle vs our previous tandem Axle so I can tell a difference there too. But again, not bad, just different. There was some slight wind in the flats in eastern Wa yesterday and it still handled great. Since my husband tows our 5th wheel with our F250 I am the dedicated boat tower now, which is why I wanted the Diesel vs the supercharged 6 (gas) Q7. I was going up HWY2 yesterday from Orondo toward Electric City if you know that part of the highway, it is very steep. Was doing 60mph and there was plenty of power left if I needed to hit the gas.

An Engineering Firm I use to work at we had one of our clients that was a big propriety owner had a light pole fall over. We inspected the rest and found that over 80% had cracks or were about to fail. We designed and developed a fix rather than replacement. Ever since then I don't park near square light poles and especially ones that have banners on them, the just act like sails.

Our new to us, but mostly her, 2011 cclb duramax. I think we are going to name her Maxine.

This thing apparently has massive brakes. 14.3 inches. Which means I don't need to fix the trailer brakes This year.

Fully loaded work truck. Power seats windows and locks. Has a radio, ac, step bars, 6 seater with molded front bucket seats, turbo brake, alumibum wheels, hidden 5th hitch, rhino lined bed. 4x4 with g80 code. Just the way we wanted it.

130,000 miles. Going to keep this one for the next 15-20 years.

Yes. This pole had been "fixed". But I was driving around the corner when this happened. Timing was crazy. 5 seconds earlier. Would have hit the windshield. Later probably would have missed me.
