The International 7.3 responds well to mods, the new ford diesel is almost twice as powerful. I loved my 7.3, but the new diesels are way more powerful and not nearly as loud. Going through drive throughs i would have to shut it down to order.

Great truck for pulling a great boat though!

New to us '05 Maristar 210 and '07 Tundra resting in the drive after a long w/end. 12.6mpg over 200mi door to door; it's pretty hilly up here in VT/NH!! Have had the Tundra three years, (great deal used, super clean, crazy low miles) as my first truck, seems to pull 4k lbs okay. Would be interested to try 2500 or f250 diesels when it's time for new rig (2-4 years is the plan). MC has crazy low hours and super clean too, (82), but needs a good buff. I've been fortunate to find some good deals...

Great pic! How were the Shwaps?

Dandy. Low 30's, high 20's most of the time. Water was 22. Has some nice glass water several days and got in some good runs. Both my sons mastered deep water slalom starts so I was a proud dad.
Had a nasty wind one day -- pulled a peg on the houseboat mooring line and came within seconds of crushing our boat between the houseboat and the shore. Good thing I was on the front deck BBQ'ing and saw it happen. Was able to jump into our boat and boot it out of there just before the houseboat broadsided the rocky beach.

It towed great. I barely felt like it was there, was very comfortable at full highway speeds. Burned a good amount of fuel, but I don't have enough non-towing miles yet to get a feel for if it was much worse.

Nice, I think I have a similar picture from last year-
Is that a factory cover you tow with?

No, the cover is a Carver from Ameribrand. I wanted something like the OEM one that had the cinch strap and they seemed to be the only place to get it.

I guess it's the whole front end that looks slick. The black top if the bumper combined with the black grill. I don't recall seeing factory black grills like that one up here either.

This was taken exactly one year ago today on the trip home from picking up the boat in Las Vegas to St. Paul.

This is Wolf Creek Ski Area in Colorado. We drove through snow flakes over the pass about 11am and later that day it accumulated to 5". Glad we missed that.

The Tow/Haul mode was great descending grades in the mountains, too. I would pull with a UHaul rig again.

2014 RAM 2500 Limited. CTD. Been very happy with the truck however, I'm now on my 7th recall over the past 18 months. First 6 were not a big deal, but the recently announced recall is a bigger deal. Trackbar may separate from the frame. Welds in the bracket potentially have poor penetration. Love the truck, Cummins is a bit noisy and the transmission is a bit clunky but it's been great with the exception of the recalls. If you have a 2013-2014 2500/3500, you may want to check this out.

Considering moving to a 2015 Denali HD with the Duramax/Allison depending on how RAM engineers the fix for this recall. I will say, for pulling the X-55 around, I will never go back to a gas truck - diesel rocks!

Not too bad. The towing capacity of the Pilot is rated at 4500lbs and the dry weight of the boat is 3800. I'd like to have a double axle trailer, which would probably make it a little easier if not just for my piece of mind.

My mother in laws Pilot gets bullied by the wind quite badly, that's why I asked how it tows.

Nice rig thrall. Can you tow with the camper on?

Yes with the short camper it works. Boat needs a 12" hitch extension minimum to tow it and with that I can't Jack knife it. Carry a longer hitch extension I case I get in a bind.
Towed a 18' trailer to AK about same weight as the boat and the truck pulls it great but truth be told, I'm waaaay over every capacity rating on the truck by a bunch with my set up. Camper is over 4klb ready to go and no way the factory hitch is rated for towing a nose heavy 6000lb boat trailer with a hitch extension. I've got well over 8klbs on the rear axle with trailer hooked up.
Any body want to contribute to the Thrall needs a dually fund?

Yes with the short camper it works. Boat needs a 12" hitch extension minimum to tow it and with that I can't Jack knife it. Carry a longer hitch extension I case I get in a bind.

Thought about installing a Super Hitch with extension? I didn't do Super Hitch, had a competitor product installed that was suppose to be stronger. BTW - I still have the camper tie downs and 3' extension collecting dust in my garage. When I purchased the 45 I had the extension upgraded for the extra weight and had to install Super Springs on the truck because the tongue weight of the 45 caused the air bags to literally flatten out. Too much weight???? Yup...those Arctic Fox campers weigh a ton. I had a 990 just under 10' version. Didn't go the dually route but finally found a tire that could handle the weight.

Old setup pic. Sold the camper two years ago and went with a motorhome.

Well, after 7 recalls in 6 months and an uncertain resolution to a frame/trackbar weld issue resolution, I made the move from the current 2014 RAM 2500 over to a new Denali HD. Haven't had a ton of time pulling yet, but seems to be equal in trailering capabilities to the RAM/Cummins combination. Definitely smoother powertrain in the GMC and it is significantly (over emphasis) quieter on the inside. Lacking a few amenities that the RAM had - auto high beams, rain sensing wipers, etc. - but all in all very happy with the decision. Personally, I like the exterior styling better on the Denali, but like the interior config on the RAM better. End result - happy boater, except there's 8 inches of snow at my house now. :(

Nice truck. Hopefully you will not have the laundry list of issues with your dmax as we have had with our 2011. The stack of records from recalls and warranty repairs is almost thick enough to make a book out of. If it wasn't paid for with only 33k on the clock it would have already gotten the boot.

Mine has a vibration issue too, but they actually fixed it by shimming the rear end to correct the pinion angle.

Mine was in and out of the dealership most of the summer. They put over 300 miles on the truck trying to narrow it down. After balancing the tires, replacing a tire, replacing the front axle, swapping the intermediate shaft with one for a Yukon that was dampened, and reprogramming the power steering I said enough enough. They had me test drive another half ton and it was probably worse, thats when I decided to go with the 3/4 ton. So far I have 200 miles on it and love it.
