Where are you located? That X-2 looks just like the one we test drove early last year. I'm also asking because it looks like there is an American Boat Center sticker on it which is the dealer we use.

I'm in TN at Center-Hill lake but I bought it from an individual in Knoxville. He bought it new in April of 2011 from the Knoxville dealer.

Yes, we loved the color combo too. We bought it with 40 hours and now just clicked 100 hours. It's been great.

its a 2006 made by Metal Craft here in SLC, UT. I added the wheels after and the MC decals to look official;) The orignal single axle trailer went kablewy on the road around 75mph AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH....wheel fell right off...no boat damage. Tandem from here out for me.:(

Grew up with an old StarFire boat made in SLC on a Metal craft trailer. Pretty good trailers.

NO KIDDING!? I was in Tomahawk, Wi (an surrounding areas LAST WEEK TOO!)

I never made it in to town but spent the week on Manson Lake at Shady Rest Lodge (http://www.shadyrestlodge.com/), but some of the younger crowd were in to see the Kwahamot Ski Show and on off days were doing some footing and jumping at the show site as my nephew's children are members and he is a past president. We should manage to meet there some time in the future.

Crazy....

We were just west of you on Bridge Lake. (Folks have a cabin on Deer Lake Road; west of 51 by a few hundred yards?). Most of the time the water is so low I refuse to take the MC (its ok for the fishing boat) in to their cabin but we launch and play on Nokomis. Drove by ya at least once to go to The White Stag (Steak)

We saw the Kwahamot's 3 times in the last 5 years. Not like I used to remember back in the day. (although I was younger and smaller)

Small world...

Small world indeed. Looks like 4 miles apart as the crow flies.

Kwahamot's sure aren't what they used to be, but they are on their way back up. Give them a few years and they should be something again.

Yes I guess we are, although has been a struggle for delivery 7mnths from order due to Thailand manufacturing issues. This is my 1st diesel and was concerned going from petrol engines, but this thing is very impressive power and tourque wise and very happy. I have heard that is wont be available in the US, I guess there are other solutions for you guys, but a mid sized turbo diesel with a respectable tow capacity and great fuel economy ie 33mpg when not towing and around 22mpg when towing is always a good thing

Rockin a 1992 GMC Sub with a 454 and 201,000miles+! My dad bought the truck brand new and it became my first car. It sat for 7 years until last Dec when I resurrected it. Changed most everything you could outside of cracking the engine open and took it to Tahoe this summer without an issue. Love that truck.

Double, how do you like your QX for towing the 30? Doesn't look like it has the deluxe touring package with auto leveling suspension (wheels are a give away). What did you tow with before the QX?

Double
10-11-2012, 10:16 AM
It does an ok job towing, I don't have the deluxe touring package. I don't have to tow it much (maybe three times a year 100 miles roundtrip) so it does a good job. As long as you don't tow any faster than 75 the engine, tranny do just fine. Any faster than that and the cruise has the tranny constantly downshifting and running at high revs.

I used to tow with a 08 Chevy 3500 crew cab with Duramax. The infinity is super comfortable and nice to ride in but if I towed more I'd probably go in a different direction.

speaking of ramp challanges!! Here was the dilemma when we showed up at the cabin with a couple boats for the 4th of July and the water was way down and too low to launch our boats the normal way.....

We had to dig trenches behind the rear wheels and back into.

Our cabin is on 140 acre lake with no public launch. But once we got out there. It's a private ski / board / surf lake all to ourselves..

I had similar issue on our vacation this year in Minnesota. Small lake, small launch, and the water was down.

Not too bad to get it around. Most the people in my area park in thier driveways so i can spin it right around. If the young kid across the street paks his car on the street then its tight. Its amazing how easy it is to pull this 10,000lbs beast.

I was just doing some quick napkin-math with 3 fills x 80 gallons x approx. $4.00/gallon was right around $1,000. Forgot he was up north--what is the price for a gallon of premium up there?

Nice one TN X-45!!

You other guys, methinks it was a joke because of the giant green sticker on the window.

We do that at the pathetic car shows around here:
It's always a red Grand Prix with a giant windshield banner.
"Hey is that a Pontiac?"
"Yeah--Grand Prix."
"Oh. Hard to tell. Ahhh I see it now. Good thing you put that sticker on there."

New tow rig. 2013 Touareg TDI Exec. Just getting it broken in so haven't towed with it yet. A lot of what I read here and on other sites lead me to this purchase. It drives great. Has great get up and go. 240 HP and some 407lbs of torque. Plus it gets great gas mileage.

The thread on here about the t-bone accident also really sold me on it.

We had looked at the Cayenne too and other truck options but just didn't want another large truck and didn't want to spend the premium on the Cayenne, not that this thing was inexpensive. Man never thought I would buy a VW much less spend what we did on a VW. All in all pretty happy with it. I will post more info once we start towing with it. Will likely go out for the last time this season on Saturday.

That thing is a beauty!
I'm on the fence on getting one. Took out a Q7, hooked it up to the boat and pulled it like a champion. Would have bought it, but my local Audi dealer wasn't very helpful. Poor sales service.
Let us know what you think about it, post pics with the boat hooked up.

You will not be disappointed in it's Tow ability, just awesome in every way. I am getting about 14 MPG towing my X2 through the mountains and 28 to 30 MPG all around average. No sway with a tandem trailer either which was my biggest concern based on it's size and braking is a non issue also. Quite frankly, only way I really know the boat is with me is by looking in the rear view, lol. On steep highway down hills, I found this to work best. Go to Manual mode... Run about 79-80 mph by the time you hit the bottom of the hill in 8th gear, (1900 rpm) at the start of the uphill, shift to 7th and you can lug all the way up at about 70 mph (2400 rpm) Pedaling it seems to work best and keeps the shifting to a minimum. You can run with cruise, but it is way late and over shifting occurs.

Do yourself a favor and order one of these, eliminates the clunking. http://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Ball_Mounts-sf-Fixed_Ball_Mount-gw-Aluminum.aspx
I use it in the raised position, rear end only drops 1" and trailer is perfectly level.

Cheers,

Great rig! Did VW de-rate the tdi Touregs or is it not the V10 anymore? I recall the older ones being somewhere around 300hp/500tq.

You do need a wrench to instal and tighten down, but it is rock solid. I use it on the T-Rex in the raised position.

So no V8 or V10tdi anymore? Wonder why? Competing with the higher priced Cayennes and Audis?
Still that's great mileage out of the V6tdi. Close to 30mpg in an effectively full size SUV is awesome. (Too bad the US mfr's don't pull their heads out of their ^&^#$# and start producing some light duty diesels. I'm set for vehicles for years to come right now, but for my purposes, a 1/2 ton truck with a 450ft/lb+ diesel would be perfect.)
Oh wait, I got one. Too bad it's 18yrs old and too many miles!

I absolutely agree, would love to see a Diesel in a 1/2 ton. For me this reduced my fleet by one, combo daily driver/company car and tow vehicle plus something the wife can drive too. I loved my truck, but towing comparison with the T-Rex is comical actually, a gaser just can't compare.

While waiting for the insurance company to settle on my 1st one, I rented a 2500 gaser, it was better than towing with my Dodge1500 4.7 liter, but still no comparison to the VW and only got about 8 MPG. I do miss the height of the truck and certainly the bed when you need it though. I will probably get a used 2500 diesel down the road again someday.

It is an Extreme trailer with 17" rims. It has steel mud guards and the angled pices are cheaker plate , which have been bent to shape and welded in place. I'm not sure who did the work but it does look a bit different and really sets off the boat.

The new Porsche comes with a TDI and has some impressive tq figures and air ride suspension. This is key to keep the truck level with the tongue weight.

Our Touareg tows so well because of the suspension and that the transmission is nicely geared too. It is build like a truck...heck it. Weighs 5400lbs, has 13.5" front rotors and 6 piston calipers... Rear brakes are 13" and have 4 piston calipers..

My biggest concern would not be the overall weight around town, but the tongue weight.
Not sure how the single axle trailers are biased for tongue weight, but the X2 is really nose heavy on a tandem trailer. It'll squat a F150 pretty good.
You might be surprised on the overall weight too. Bet it's greater than 4500lbs unless the boat is stripped out. My X2 with 4 tower speakers, 3 amps, 2 big batteries, full tank of fuel and all the misc crap is well over 5k lbs with trailer. For some reason the X2 tows "heavier" than it's bigger brother the X15. Can't remember the weight exactly, I rolled the scales once after fixing a flat there.
Might look at some TImbrens or something to shore up the @ss end.

Sorry for my slow reply on the posts about my Wrangler. It is a 2012 with the factory tow package. I'm glad to be reading these posts after towing it around town! Sounds like I was playing with fire. I didn't have any problems with it but after towing it learned that the 2011 X2s are actually over 4000 lbs by themselves so with the trailer I was over 5 k and thus well over the 3500 lbs limit of my rig. Opps. Guess that's the last time I'll do that. Thankfully my wife has a bigger car coming which is much better suited even though it won't match as well (while SUV).

Bottom line: towing an X2 with a Wrangler is probably a bit dangerous

Happy holidays everyone.

If you want something special artwork wise that's not there let me know... I am going to make some of the more modern decal art.

My truck with the x-35 I just picked up

That was what I needed to see!! I just got a Raptor myself, and I have a Star on the way. I was worried about the rear suspension with a heavier boat. Coming from a Denali HD, towing was my major concern, but not anymore!

The one thing that I didnt like about the Raptor, was the lack of power compared to my Duramax. So, I threw a Rouscharger on it :D

I am sure it still won't tow as good, but should be good enough!

Wow, I am mere miles from Ford world headquarters and have never even seen or heard of that 2012 Falcon. Pretty crazy to think how much effort and expense the auto companies must go through to have appropriate and attractive product for each part of the world. Over here in the USA, the Explorer is a healthy product for Ford. With the outback and all, wondering if it is also popular down under?

firstly my thanks to my wingman, gmantrix......... well done brother - glad to have you on my back..........
East has been asked.............
No real reason ......... we are annually in and out of Nevada and we are in East Australia........
Down Under??????
dont have an issue with down under..........
Thats where we are.......... Melbourne Australia

The car...........
NO not a Ford Falcon nor a Ford Exploder

A 2012 Ford Territory............
It is a 7 seat SUV and comes in either a rear wheel drive or constant 4 wheel drive
It has two engine variants being a 2.7 litre, 6 cylinder Diesel or a 4litre Petrol.
The petrol version does not have an awd variant onlt rwd.
Both have a 6 speed auto.
Towing capacity on the petrol and rwd diesel variant is 2300kg or 2700kg for the all wheel drive diesel variant.
It is around 2ton – 18inch wheels

Ours is the diesel variant and it flys............ the diesel engine used is the Ford Duratorq engine which has been used in Jaguars, Range Rovers (going back to Fords connection withthem a few years back)
Towing the boat, it sits on 100klm per hour (60mph) and you would not know the boat is on the back.......
This car won Car of the Year for 2011 – 2012.
link about the Territory
http://www.ford.com.au/suv/territory
Yes the car does look small but I guess this is exaggerated by the boat sitting so high on the trailer............
Our market here does not supply the trucks you have in the US. The “big” trucks are imported by specialist motor companies from dealers in the US and right hand drive conversions are done here. Ford have just released a new Ute, Ranger, based on the Mazda BT50 - that is getting up in size a little
The number of big "trucks" on the road is insignificant...........Prices are astronomical......................to say the least hence why the numbers are insignificant......... a 2010 F150 upwards of $ 90,000.........

Hope this answers the questions........
And thanks for the compliments on the boat.....

Hmmm.sorry, my bad...i hunted for a few minutes and found what looked like identical tail lights on a flacon wagon. One thing to note, it seems like the safety standards down under are a little different. For example, a Rav4 in Australia is rated for towing capacity with trailer brakes (3500 lbs 4cyl) and without (1500, NA limit for a 4cyl) . Might explain why they tow with what looks like a smaller vehicle. I wonder if, by standard, manufacturers put more transmission cooling and more beefed up capacity due to the warmer weather and terrain in Australia?

Buy stock in Toyo. I just put open country M/Ts on it for the winter. Ironically, i think it was a mistake. The stock BFG all terrains are terrible in snow. I thought the toyos would be better, but, not so much. I am going to stick with them though.

Get the inner tread blocks siped. Turns them into a true snow tire that is also a mudder.
Makes 100% difference in packed or wet snow traction.
