Your right, I did miss a Chevy in there!! I guess GM wins! :D

Most everyone skied in one form or another from 9:30 AM until 5:30 PM. MGBOYD and I barefooted, many people did the slalom course, young ones did kneeboarding, lots of wakeboarding and surfing. I even saw a SkySki but did not see if they used it.

The GM Debt is not paid off. They simple did two things, borrowed additional government money and exchanged government debt for equity (stock). It made good press last April to say they repaid the original TARP funds which is what everyone wanted to hear but was not factual. It will be decades before they emerge from Government Motors and become General Motors again.

Looks like you're boating at Santa Rosa? I love that lake, and actually garage my 45 at Conchas. There's some water front real estate at Conchas, however the water is so low it's a 1/4 mile walk down to it now. Such a shame this drought is killing our lakes =(.

Actually its Bluewater on the west side of the state. It was our first time there and definitely do not recommend it for skiing or boarding. It is just way too small. The water levels are the other reason we decided to go with an RV instead of something permanent. We can travel all over looking for good water.

There's no doubt, I live in Albuquerque and there are some areas where I wouldn't want to be broken down on the street. However, there are some neighborhoods here that rival some of the nicest I saw while living up in Boulder, Co. You just don't see the "nice NM" by driving through on the Interstates.

That being said, a friend of mine had an internship in Oakland last year and HOLY CRAP!!! Some areas there made Abq feel like Disneyland.. yikes

Albuquerque, like most cities, has some pretty scary parts. It also has a lot of very nice parts. The north side of town is very nice. Not like north Chicago, but still nice.

Most of the time we go to El Vado, but like to mix it up and find the best place for any time of year. El Vado is always really low for Labor Day and we trashed a prop there two years ago. We still haven't found a good lake for Memorial because everywhere is so windy. We went all the way to Powell this year only to get blown off the lake all three days before 9 AM. What about you?

Sad fact, too many American's don't see it as a privilege to have such things. Sure we all work for such luxuries but there are lots of places in this world that if you are not the dictator you wouldn't have it they way you do.

The North Valley in Alb, VERY NICE!!!
Anyways, for lakes in NM I prefer Conchas and Navajo, absolutely hate the Butte. I was there last year and got a ticket that ruined my fun for a long long time, and reluctantly went back over the weekend and this is what happened.. I'm afraid my season is over =(.
Also, I agree before mid June the wind is horrible here, but if you go to Santa Rosa and ride in the channel, it makes for some pretty nice water regardless of wind (but the bass fishermen get REALLY mad, haha!)

The butte is the worst. We've made that trip once in the last three years and I hit a rock skiing and fortunately only tore up my ski real bad and not myself or the boat. We did the same as you at El Vado two years ago on Labor Day. Luckily for us it was only prop and drive shaft. Those pictures hurt to look at.

It has a transmission cooler and the stock hitch has a capacity of 5000 lbs. The 3.7L V6 puts out 300hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. I know a V8 would be preferred but I think pulling a 3500 lb boat should work, even full of gas. Thoughts?

Very nice setup! Is the Aussie Prado the same as what us Yanks call the LandCruiser? You have the newer version of my setup, '97 LC and an '89 PS 190. I only get 11-12 mpg, pretty much the same when towing.
Kevin

No the Land Cruiser Prado for us comes as the Lexus GX, and also shares underpinnings with the 4Runner.

Isn't the MDX FWD (front wheel drive)? If it is, it will be hard pulling the boat out of the water. You might be ok pulling short distances, but I wouldn't expect it to do very well on a long distance trip.

It's funny you mentioned that. After I took the pic I realized that too and put some more air in the rear airbags to level out. I did not consider the EcoBoost, I thought if i really wanted a truck with turbos I wouldn't have sold my 08' Ford 6.4 diesel and the other reason was, subconciously I can't own a truck with a V6 and not once have I thought that I made the wrong decision. I am pretty happy with it too, I am getting 19.8 mpg on the highway turning 34 inch tires and stock gearing, for a V8 that's awesome IMO

Kevin 89 MC,

The Prado is a smaller version of the LC that is available worldwide, nontheless 7 seats and an effortless drive. This is my third one and would not have anything else. The 3 lt diesel has it's work cut out with 4 + tonnes but the trade off is I can get well over 1000 miles to the tank if I'm not towing and will go forever. Rock solid and quiet as a mouse.

500 lb worth of gas and gear

you'll pretty much be at the 5000 lb MAXIMUM towing capacity

I have a 2011 X-14V with the 2011 MDX. According to the website, X-2 is 300lbs more than X-14V.

The MDX is "Super Handling AWD", essentially the Subaru AWD system. Works great. I did put in air shocks in the rear to lessen the rear-end sag, but it pulls like a champ. Towed the boat 250 miles for vacation, from sea level to 3000', at 70 mph. Braking is great, including hard stopping, no dipping and lifting the front. Only negative is about 12 mph towing, but since it is only 2x / year, I'm ok with that.

Thanks Skipa! Have you posted on a MDX site before? I think I might have seen your pic there before. I REALLY don't want to get a bigger towing vehicle, and if you're able to tow w/o any problems that's great. Good tip about the air shocks in the rear. How did you go about doing that? I assume you meant 12mpg? That's okay with me also, we won't be towing very often it will mostly either be stored off season or in the lake during the season. Thanks for the pic.

Yes, 12 mpg. MDX goes up 6% grade on freeway at 65mph.

That's pretty dang good mileage! Pulling my 205 with the 8.1L 2500 suburban, I get about 8 mpg. Has no problem holding any speed but does like the gas.

the boat is built for running very shallow rocky mountain rivers.8 degree variable hull.it has a 1/2" thick keel and 3/8" bow and wings, covered by 1/2" teflon that is doubled up on the keel.motor is a 175 sportjet with a scott trim nozzle.gets me too great hunting areas that are otherwise unaccessable.but i mainly just run in small creeks and skinny back chanels trying not to get stuck.

I'm not sure about about the brands and models of river boats but my buddy (in Dawson Creek / Chetwynd BC) spent X-2 kind of dollars on his custom built one. $70 ish I think? I haven't been out in his yet but I imagine it looks similar to yours.

Not a bad option for the poor suckers who only get to have 1 boat ;)

When my river boat buddy came with us to the lake he thought the calm, calculated maneuvering around the dock and shore was very strange. He is used to ramming it wherever he wants to go. Of course he was blown away by the pull, the wake, and the tracking. His wife preferred a day on the water with me over one with him. (Maybe part of his plan though)

It took me a couple tries to get back into the hang of docking with the X2 after only riverboating for the last 4 yrs.I was used to running up on shore when unloading by myself and leaving the boat running to hold it there.Or running right up onto the dock to get the intake out of the water to remove weeds.lol.

She would command some respect from the other drivers. It says so in the Redneck Manual regarding driving etiquette:

Redneck Book of Manners

1. Never take a beer to a job interview.
2. Always identify people in your yard before shooting at them.
3. It's considered poor taste to take a cooler to church.
4. If you have to vacuum the bed, it is time to change the sheets.
5. Even if you're certain that you are included in the will, it is still
considered tacky to drive a U-Haul to the funeral home.

***DINING OUT***

1. If drinking directly from the bottle, always hold it with your fingers
covering the label.
2. Avoid throwing bones and food scraps on the floor as the restaurant may
not have dogs.

***ENTERTAINING IN YOUR HOME***

1. A centerpiece for the table should never be anything prepared by a
taxidermist.
2. Do not allow the dog to eat at the table no matter how good his manners
are.

***PERSONAL HYGIENE***

1. While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that should be done
in private using one's OWN truck keys.
2. Proper use of toiletries can forestall bathing for several days. However,
if you live alone, deodorant is just a waste of money.
3. Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a social no-no, as they tend to
detract from a woman's jewelry and alter the taste of finger foods.

***DATING (Outside the Family)***

1. Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the first date.
2. Be aggressive. Let her know you're interested: "I've been wanting to go
out with you since I read that stuff on the bathroom wall two years ago."
3. Establish with her parents what time she is expected back. Some will say
10:00 PM; others might say "Monday." If the latter is the answer, it is the
man's responsibility to get her to school on time.
4. Always have a positive comment about your date's appearance, such as, "Ya
sure don't sweat much for a fat gal."

***WEDDINGS***

1. Livestock, usually, is a poor choice for a wedding gift.
2. Kissing the bride for more than 5 seconds may get you shot.
3. For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit or a clean bowling
shirt can create too sporty an appearance.
4. Though uncomfortable, say "yes" to socks and shoes for this special
occasion.
5. It is not appropriate (nor a compliment) to tell the groom how good his
wife is in the sack.

***DRIVING ETIQUETTE***

1. Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles; even if the gun is loaded
and the deer is in sight.
2. When approaching a four-way stop the vehicle with the largest tires always
has the right of way.
3. Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape.
4. When sending your wife down the road with a gas can it is impolite to ask
her to bring back beer.
5. Never relieve yourself from a moving vehicle, especially when driving.
6. Do not lay rubber while traveling in a funeral procession.

really small world - I lived in Sandy for a few years over on 9200 south and 15th East appox. Do you ski, board, surf or all of three?

If the water is smooth I would ski first, Sky Ski second, wakeboard third, surf fourth. My wife would say ski first (even though she is not that good she likes the smooth water) and surf second (which she is good at). My 9 year old girl is decent at wakeboarding and can surf without the rope for a long time on her wakeboard (she only weighs about 50 lbs.). My 6 year old son lives to wakeboard and surf the same as his sister - it's all he thinks about. My 4 year old girl is just along for the ride, and hasn't gotten the bug yet.

I am going to Lake Powell November 2nd to the 6th to get one last ski in and winterize the houseboat share we have. Then the Mastercraft gets winterized and put away - sad.

Question: My Dad has a 1985 Chevy Silverado, It is in good shape, no rust with low miles but it has been sitting for 10 years. I asked him about it the other day and told him I would rebuild the carb and help him getting it running again if he wants to. He now says he wants me to have it....it is a nice truck but I am curious how it would tow my 205? It is pretty basic and has a 305 in it.

Over all plan.....get it running and leave it and the boat at the lake house in Kentucky I want to buy in the next year.

Whatcha ya'll think about towing with an older Silverado with a 305????

I believe the 305 was rated at 180 hp. It will certainly pull your 205 around, but you won't be setting any land speed records, or passing vehicles on twisty highways.

Thats what I thought...it will be kinda slow, but I will only be towing a few miles to the ramp each day. Bad thing is the ramps at the lake are VERY STEEP AND LONG, I hope the old truck can handle it as it is a 2WD.

2WD is going to be the biggest problem. I have pulled mine (granted mine is a 195) with my 70 Chevy several times. Even ttok it on a 4 hour trip pulling the boat at 75+. Been stuck on the ramp once too. It had a lot of sand on it and the wife was too heavy on the clutch. Sunk in the sand, but was able to push it out by hand and moved to a different ramp. But as I was saying the long ramp wouldn't scare me but if they are steep and have sand on them, install a winch.

Most times, 2wd gets up just fine unless it is raining.

The problems that I always see are the idiots who get going too fast down them and then lock them up trying to slow down.

At Jamestown, the hardest part is the climb out after getting up the ramp.

Since you're only towing a couple miles, air down the back tires, 25psi and a little weight in the bed and it'll handle about any paved ramp.

I just ordered a new Lexus RX 350 AWD for my wife as her daily driver. It has the tow package on it, has anyone ever towed anything with one of these? I'll use my Tahoe to tow the boat, but just curious if anyone else has any experience with this vehicle? I think its only rated for like 3500lbs, but that's could probably pull a ProStar. Just curious.

Clearly my new ride isn't as cool as Jimmies...but my wife is happy, so as long as she is happy, I will hopefully be rewarded appropriately once the car arrives if you know what I mean. ;-)

As much as I'm not a huge fan of "the styling uniqueness" our 07' RX400h, it hasn't given us any problems. I think it's hitting around 77k and all we do is service it. My wife really likes it so I can't complain. It does go really fast (in a straight line)! We also have it serviced at the Toyota dealer for all warranty work. No problem at all. The tech there just said it was a "fancy Highlander Hybrid".....which makes sense.

Good luck with your new purchase!~ At least you have a tow rating. I think our Hybrid says like "500 lbs" and not really recommended to tow anything. Hey, that's what the suburban's for!!

I had an 89 Cherokee with the straight 6, 4x4 and manual shift. Nothing like your YouTube vid but that thing was a blast to take on the muddy hills of western PA. Put it in low 4x4 and it could climb. Scared the cxxxx out of my wife the day I drove it though a snow bank to get off the highway. Roads were closed due to the snow storm. It does pretty well. I've become spoiled by pulling it with the 3/4 ton all the time, so obviously it feels like the boat is pretty substantial behind the Benz.
