It was at that point. I have an adjustable hitch...Had to move it up 2" or so before I left the Marina. I was surprised that I had to move the ball up. My dump trailer is level at the height I had it at before. I would have thought that the dump trailer hitch would have been higher than the boat.

That's what you get for thinking. :D Just goes to show no two trailers take the same draw bar height. I think it's a draw bar manufacturer's conspiracy.

Hardly..... weighs 5400lbs and capable of doing 7700lbs of towing. Do a search on here and wakeworld and there have been plenty of discussions....

It's a different view point... safety or capability isn't an issue at all. I get about 400kms of range on a 100ltr fuel tank averaging about 67-60mph on the highway.

We have the uber rare 2008 V8 with the Air Suspension :) Tows like a dream and lotta torque too.

The new 6cly TDI is enticing but the Touareg 2 no longer has Air Suspension as an option. You have to go with the Audi Q7 or Porsche and are considerably more money. Our lease is up soon (year left) but I think we'll keep this one as it has had no issues at all in 3 years.

Do your research before you speak... ask yourself... can your pickup truck stop and it is being pushed?

http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=778830

The brakes on the Touareg are much better than any 1/2 ton or even 3/4 pickup on the market.

Rotors are 350mm in size. 6 piston caliper in the front and 4 piston in the rear.

As in another thread Greg Tayor who tows a LSV wrote this.

"Answering questions above: The Touareg (and others in it's class)do fine with heavy loads. I tow a 23' Wakesetter and you don't feel the boat back there. My V10 has 350mm brakes.. so no problems there either. This isn't a "boardlline" situation... it's well within the limits of the Touareg and the boat does not effect how the Touareg drives. One major plus... my Touareg tops the scales at 6000#... that's more than most full size/large SUV's and full size 1/2 trucks. "
http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=750278

Further more board memeber sp0tts writes:

"tro, that "little SUV" isn't so little, it weighs 5200 lbs. For comparisons sake there are a lot of pickup trucks don't weigh that much (a standard cab F150 weighs 4700 lbs. and a Silverado 1500 extended cab with a standard box only weighs 80 lbs more).

and to compare brakes, these SUVs can go from 60-0 in 112 feet. Here's a link has braking distances for trucks from most manufacturers:

http://special-reports.pickuptrucks....1/braking.html

needless to say, the shortest distance was more than 30ft longer and every average was over 40ft longer from 60-0 than these SUVs.

The only advantage a pickup or suburban could have is a longer wheel base. There's only a 6 inch difference in wheelbase between these SUVs and a Silverado standard cab. The crew cabs are around 30 inches, which one could argue is significant, but the brakes and suspension on these vehicles more than make up for the wheelbase difference IMO.

Now are these vehicles for everyone? No, some people like trucks or have other needs. Are these vehicles a safe and more than capable tow vehicle? Definitely. "

I've got an 08 V10 Touareg and my previous tow rig was an 05 Avalanche. Yes you can feel the boat is back there in both. I haven't ridden in anything towing a boat that you couldn't feel something back there.

I will say the Touareg tows circles around my old Avalanche. I was a little worried when I hooked up the first time because the proportions seem off. But I was proven wrong before I even made it out of the neighborhood.

Not trying to stir things up but its not the size of the brakes that makes the difference, its a combination of weight displacement, axle sizing, framing, brake size(&type), wheel type, etc... Not saying your suv can't stop it, I'm sure it can and may even be pretty good at it. Its the fact that of that SUV being designed for it. It may be designed to pull a trailer on a rare condition.... I have seen the result of a too small vehicle pulling too big of a trailer. It was a 2005 toyota 4 runner, which is supposed to good as well and it was pulling a malibu wakesetter.... went to stop in a hurry and the boat lifted the rear end of the vehicle and pushed it..... the brakes worked great... I saw them try to stop.... the rest of the car didn't... resulted in a snapped axle, body damage from being jack knifed, and rear end damage of a suburban...

Keep pulling your boat with your ride, It is capable. Just remember it isn't designed for that kind of weight behind it... and use cuation in emergency and weather hindering situations....

Not to get further off topic but...

Dont most MC trailers have brakes? My 78 does but I dont use em. (dont feel its necssary)

I dont even notice the Little MC S&S behind the F250 SD CC LongBed 4x4 Diesel - although the truck is a beast and is about 20 feet long.... The 32' 10,000 pound enclosed on the other-hand definately has working trailer brakes, breakway teather, massive chains and towed using the built in Ford brake controller - works great....

So... I didn't mean to get an argument going. I was just observing that the size of the vehicle was disproportionate to the size of the boat. If the Toureg is rated to tow the weight, then more power to you. It certainly sounds like it is more than capable. Lets get back to the photos and off our high horses, aye?

admittedly, I have way more truck than I need to tow my boat. I bought it to tow my tractor though. Big difference in weight. All the talk about what vehicle you tow with doesn't mean a damn thing if you really break it down to what matters. The link between the steering wheel and the drivers seat is by far the most important aspect of towing.

You can tow with just about any vehicle you can (safely) put a hitch on but you have to drive carefully no matter what you drive.

Looks real good! I really like the colors, and your chrome really pops.

One question, I assume you are just hooking up or unhooking the trailerat the time of the photo, but do you tow with the jack stand down? I have seen some people who just crank the jack all the way up instead of rotating 90deg. Seems like a risk for going in and out of steep driveways.

You are correct...I am not actually hooked up to the boat in this picture and NO I would NEVER tow with the jack stand down.

Thanks for the kind words...the colors were not my first choice because all my other boats have been all black but I am really happy with these colors now...The trailer really helps!!!

Here is my 1990 toyota 4x4 pickup. Now before everyone gets all concerned about the tail wagging the dog. I only towed the X15 the 12 blocks to the lake and back. Using low range, I got it out of the water with no problems. Now my normal tow vehicle that I use is a 2010 GM 3/4 ton with the 6L. Unfortunately I have been working away and flying back and forth, hence the need to use the old truck to get back and forth from the lake. I wouldn't even dream of going out on the highway with this.

Darn! I did see this post until after i already had my boat in the water. I wont have it on trailer again until fall probably, taking it out. Here is a photo of my new tow vehicle. Its a 2011 gmc acadia slt-1. It replaced our 02 trailblazer as our tow vehicle. It was a joy towing it to the lake. it is rated at less towing then the trailblazer, but it towed it like a champ.

I gotta snap a pic next time I see the dude, but there is a guy that puts in at the ramp near my house that has a cool retro S&S MC that he tows with his Corvette from the same 70's vintage. It's awesome. They are both 2-tone grey and match perfectly.

The interior is excellent on these new dodges. I'm in love with this truck already and I just picked it up on Tuesday. The pic is showing right side up now for me, is it showing properly for anyone else?? I'll get a better side on pic of the boat in a week when I finally get to take it out. Too many trees and not enough room to get a decent shot but.... here ya go.

1st pic was headin out; 2nd and 3rd were upon return (now getting ready for vacation).

Boat ran great. (after all the winter refubishing and restoration)

Weather was perfect. Lake traffic was low, and good water.

Followed by some Bells (beer), and chicken on the grill.

Great Day!

Most states allow double towing from either a gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch. Most states have a 65ft limit Colorado is 70ft. I just googled state trailer towing laws and found a state by state listing. I was actually 67 ft long...two foot over in three of the states I drove through on my trip. The highway patrolman never bothered me though.

(Sis lives in Park City, although the north route may be a bit rough for that much weight through the mountains)

We used to get houseboats out of Kellers Ferry and beach in a nice cove across from Hunters. It is very well protected cove with nice beaches.

We did the same Forrest until they went out of business. Was a bummer too, they were the most reasonably priced albeit their boats were pretty old. Never bothered us though. 14 years we went there. Dakota Columbia out of Seven Bays is nice, but man they're expensive and in my opinion have really weird date structures where you end up having to leave and return on odd dates (= more vacation days). This will be our 2nd year renting out of Two-Rivers. We've never been very far up the Spokane, how is it? Always figured there was way more people. We'll be there July 21st - 25th.

We are sure side tracking the tow rig thread. ;)

That's great - we will be staying at Two Rivers at the same time and then Banks in August. Who is following who? :D We are heading to Two Rivers on July 21st as well.

Only been up the Spokane a few times and we have found great water just past the state park and before the rock formations. The rock formations make me a little nervous since my not so great experience at Lincoln Rock years ago. The one thing to be aware of is the floating sticks. Two years ago there were lots of floaters.
If you don't head to far up lake in the houseboat maybe we will see ya on the lake.

Nice boat!

Great looking rig.

Perhaps just the camera angle, but it looks like the truck is squatting too much in the rear and putting too much weight on the front trailer tires. Mother-in-law in the back of the truck???

I believe the angle of the photo of the previous x55 behind the Ford F250 is making the boat look bigger than it actually is, or the truck look smaller than it is. Here is my 2010 x55 I had last year behind my lifted 2011 F250.

I don't drive over boat speeds with the bimini up. I just went down the street to get a part for the trailer safty chain. I do believe you should lower the binimi or remove it to go any distance or speed.

LOL, your eyes are not lying. I had parts on order for the truck to replace the springs in the rear so during that picture, the rear suspension was soft.

Rides sweet now though, all work on the truck has been completed!

Heading home from Lake of the Ozarks. Not sure if I have posted here or not in the past. Cracked the trucks left front wheel on the way home. 16.5 wheels are no longer made. A new look soon on the truck.

The crack was internal and just caused the tire to go flat on the down side of I40 from Flagstaff. New one piece wheels and tires on order. 3 16.5x8 Weld wheels and 4 33x12.5x16.5 tires BFG's if anyone is interested. I wouldn't want them though.

I am sorry to say I am not surprised. I always thought Weld was the best made wheels so I paid the extra expense for them. Well after cracking two seperate sets and loosing the chrome on three other sets I am done with Weld Wheels. I went through 5 sets of Welds in 6 years so my tire shop said find another wheel for obvious reasons. It wasn't too bad for me in the short term, I was getting a new set of wheels every year except for the frustration and lack of confidence in them.

The bigger problem was finding a good replacement.......

Long story short, some idiot teen girl ran a red light and T boned my Explorer last week with her parents beast of a caddy seville. I'm ok but the truck was declared a total loss so i'm in the market for a new SUV.

The only two SUVs i'm seriously considering are a 2011 Jeep grand Cherokee (i really like its new body style) and an 08-11 VW Touareg.

I test drove both and have to say the Touareg is awesome- Aesthetically and drivabilty wise which is making it the front runner. Plus with 7700 lb tow capacity, i know I can get a bigger boat and this thing could pull it.

I know there are a few Touareg owners out there so is there anything i should know or look for if I get one? I'd rather not fork up 50k for a new one which is why i'm ok with an 08-10 w/ low miles. Diesel vs V6 pro's cons? Must have options? electrical issues, etc?

Thanks..

Dont think youll tow 7700 lbs with the V6?

We have and 09 V6 (company car) and it is great. No issues, and it does tow my X1 great. Good mileage also...

The spec sheets list 7700 tow capacity for all engine options- including V6. Don't have mechanical knowledge to back up how it does it but they say 7700...

I have the petrol V8. We will shortly have the V8 diesel in our country and I will be going for that only for better mileage. I do not know about the US but the V6 does not come with low range in SA.
The petrol V8 has been solid. It is a 2004 model and still going strong. The engine is solid because no turbo's. Mine eats brakes and they are costly.
Must have air suspension, it helps on those steep driveways and launches.
As far as towing is concerned it is the best I have drivin. The air suspension compensates for a lot of bumps in the road.

Stick with the V8 *2008 last year of this engine in Touareg* or the TDI. Not a fan of the V6 if you are going to two.

Air suspension is a must in my books as it allows for a level load etc. You'll need a 3/4" raised tow hitch for the mastercraft trailer to sit level on the comfort setting.

Again 2008 was the last year of the air suspension. If you want new you have to go with q7 or pepper for air ride. Maybe a range rover. Steel suspension will do for short hauls, just not best for long trips or when you load up the truck with goods and load weight in rear.

We have 55k miles on ours and not one problem. the 04 we had and 08 have been great... treat it well and it will treat you well in return.
