It seem like there are a lot of prostar 197 up forsale, but I don't see any prostar 209. Is that mean, people who own the 209 like it so much that they intend to hold on to it ? Or could it be that the prostar 214 is lack of what the 209 has and people prefer to keep their 209 ? Just a thought.

I think a lot of people like the 209/X9s, I do (so far)
Our dealer says that the 9s are in high demand so far as used boats

If I recall right, the 209 doesn't have the numbers. There simply aren't that many around compared to the 197.

That is true, good point, our dealer has 2/3 more 197s than 209s(left)

I bought a 2001 PS 209 this winter because I wanted a ~21' direct drive for the best combination of space and skiability, and I'd be willing to bet a lot of 209/X9 owners chose it for similar reasons. Although the 197 is clearly a superior skiing machine, it doesn't have the interior space of the 209. It appears as though MC has tried to provide a better combination of space and skiability with the 214, but I'm just not a fan of the layout, even if I could afford it. Its nice to see MC branching out and trying something new, but I can understand how the 209/X9 would have higher demand in the used marketplace until the 214 gets out there more and wins over more people. That said, maybe it will sway my opinion more after I see it in person at my dealer's open house next Saturday.

We love our 209 for the same reason's. A lot of room for a family of 6. We can be comfortable on the boat all day long. may not be a slalom machine - but it gets the job done. We free ski, barefoot and wakeboard. We love it. As far as the 214 - good looking boat, I thought I would like the layout more, but even with the storage under the lounge seat - it still doesn't have the convienent storage locker in the back. We will be keeping this craft for a long, long time!

I have a prostar 197, and thinking about sell it or trade it in for a 209. My local dealer still has a 2006 x9 with an MCX.

I love my 02 209. I came up from a 93 205 with near perfect wakes so I'm still getting used to the bigger bumps of the 209. We mainly free ski and only hit the course a couple of times a year so were ok with the compromise.

I echo the comments about the space. I can store nearly everything for a day on the water and were not stepping on each other like before. We boat on larger lakes and this thing eats rough water for lunch compared to the 205.

It really comes down to what you value most. If I was on a small lake, didnt have kids and skied the course then I'd have a 197. Given that I'm on larger lakes, free ski, have kids and like to cruise the 209 fits the bill perfectly.

When I first went on the search for a new (used) boat, I considered the 197. We sat in both on the same dealer lot. Back and forth, back and forth. I know the 197 is a killer ski boat, but we had to go for the 209 and have never regreted it.

Compared to our 82 American Skier or even a 197, this thing has loads of room. I can stow my wakeboard, kids wakeboard, slalom, pair of kiddie skies, pair of youth combos, pair of adult combos, deflated tube, two barefoot suits, barefoot boom, bunch of outlaw vests as well as all required orange coastguard vests, food, towels, cold beverages on ice.....all out of sight except board under rear seat and boom in side pockets - both totally out of the way. Note I am talking about a 209, the X9 loses some of the space I use a lot to the bags.

Another consideration was seating. The 197 bow seats seem almost scary-small to have even a couple of kids in while underway. The 197 back seat is very short and more uncomfortable than the 209/X9

We love our 209, especially since we got the hull hooked.

(note, when I sized image to 650 wide, it looks like crap?)

Alright, alright people, you don't have to rub it in you know. :D Yeah, I just went and look at an X9 at the dealer and boy was it nice !!!! I have to sell my 2005 197 prostar first before I can think about the 209. Don't want to end up with two payments. ;)

It is not a true tournament level ski boat and the wake is nowhere as nice as your 197. What it lacks in wake is makes up for in rough water ride. You really need to drive one to see if it will work for your needs.

It's great for my growing familly and as I "age" the rough water ride is more important to me than a killer slalom wake.

Just an opinion by me: the 209 nose is quite close to the water also. Its the styling of the "Evo" boats (2001+ 190, 197, 209). I've had waves go in before. Not fun. You have to be very careful to avoid. I've even just been floating and had a large boat wave crash into my bow. Makes for a not-fun clean-up. Having an adult up front and slowing too fast in rough water will put it under also. I don't think getting a 209 over a 197 will completely remedy the low nose problem. Older 190's and 205-based boats as well as all the "non-evo" boats seem to have much higer noses.

No, it is a 2005 model so it has black and white colors instead. I have to deal with the rough waters some how, I think most ski boat on Gun Lake are not in use during the busy hours.

I have 2 kids and a dog and the 209 has plenty of room to be comfortable. (Did I forget to mention the wife?) I would highly recommend it to anyone.:)

From what I can gather from your postings you don't seems to be 100% sure what you want. Have you test drove any 209's? They are really versitile boats with plenty of room. If you are worried about choppy water and the ride, have you considered a V-drive at all? We have a 06 X-10 it doesn't do any one water disipline excellent but it does all of them well and it handles the chop very vell due to the deeper v. We really like it and it is very comparable in size and storage space to the 209. The nose sits higher in the water so we really have had no close calls with water coming over the bow. We mainly wakeboard and for our ability levels it does a great job plenty of wake and pop for inverts. I slalom behind it just fine, I free ski only. If you wanted it for the course the X-10 might be a little wide. I've pulled barefooters long line with no complains or problems. IMO I would stick with the boat I have and spend some time test driving some of the other boats I am interested in first before making a change. I see no benefit from going from your 197 to a TT 197 same boat, same concerns as in your original post about your current boat. That is just my opinion.

I've heard somewhere in here that the 209 is the Swiss Army Knife of MasterCrafts. Yeah we got a 9 because its something different, something you can do all behind.

It rides sooooooooo good in waves too.

ditto for us with the X10, we mainly went for that because no engine cover in the way=more space. Better hull for the Mississippi when the water is rough. Good all around boat.

Well, to answer your question. My garage could only fit a 197 and it will be really tight with a 209. I test drove the 209 and like the way it handles and like the space which it has. I also test drove the 205 Vdrive, I didn't like the ride one bit but my wife love the seating layout. I test drove the 197 and love the way it handles, the space is not that bad, and most important of all it fit in my garage and still have some room to play around. End up buying a 197. Until too many close call of water getting over the front of the boat, since our lake can be choppy some time.

The reason that I like the 197 TT boat is because I like the color layout and the engine that it has. To me, I think the Tournament boat is like a sport car. After taking it out for a ride, I can wax it, buff it, then sitting back and appreciate how nice it looks. :D

If I have a choice, I would get a 209.

It is a 2005 Prostar 209. It has the 350 HP MCX engine. It is unbelievably quick out of hole, and maneveurs like a Porsche. I bought it from MCBoats of Arkansas. I'm couldn't speak more highly of the group of people there. A class act.
