View Full Version : Teak attracts yellow jackets...???

No, I don't have a teak swim platform.

But, I do have two teak steamer lounges and two teak tables on my back deck. Over the last few weeks, I have noticed that the yellow jackets are attracted to the teak

Does anybody know why???? Anybody had the same thing happen????

I did put a yellow jacket trap up to try and keep them away from the chairs so we can use them, but they seem to like the teak more:mad:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When it comes to my teak swim platform, they die of carbon monoxide poisioning, drown or can't fly fast enough.

Maybe try coating it with 20 or so coats of teak oil like No1 will help?

I havn't had a problem with yellow jackets with mine.

No carpenter bees and my house, that is a different story. I fight them every year.

Get a 1/2 whiskey barrel and fill it about a 1/8 of the way with water.

Yellow Jackets like whiskey more than teak.

Plus it is fun to see them try and fly around all drunk.

I love this idea. We have wasps once in awhile and my father-in-law left whiskey at the lake that only he will drink...not anymore:D Can hardly wait to see the darn things sauced.

Never hurts to have some back-up alcohol around (even if it sucks) might pay off in a pinch. :D :D

We need to know if it is just the whiskey barrel with water in it or any old barrel with whiskey in it. Lakey...what is it? Kind of like the old chicken and the egg story here.

Old whiskey barrels. The whiskey will seep out of the barrel into the water. Don't be wasting drinkable whiskey on Jackets.

I guess you could put a five gallon bucket out with some whiskey in it, but grandpa might be on his hands and knees trying to drink it.
