You Guys Say This Is An Indmar Engine? How Do You Guys Rate This Engine? Dependable? Vs. The Newer Engines

Thanks

That is an Indmar Ford 351. Great motors. Should last to 2000 hours or more with regular maintenance. Should provide years of nearly trouble free service.

PS Oil your teak!

I have the same Ford 351 in my boat, its been very dependable.

keep an eye on the impeller in the spring, oil changes by hours of use, and your distributor.

Question, what words are printed in the blue portion of the water coolant hoses?

Assuming it's the 351W, darned near bullet proof in my experience.

Yeah, that freaking motor is a tractor.

My buddy bought his '87, that had been beat on, and does regular maintenance on it at the beginning of the year and has had no problems.

Not to say that any 350 I have owned has left me on the side of the road. Why did MC stop offering the Ford option? I can only think of one unnamed manufacturer that you can get a Ford motor in.

As far as I know, nobody is marinizing Fords for ski boats anymore.

There are some facts that I'll unintentionally leave out, but basically, Ford set out to do its own marinization around 2000 or so. So PCM switched to Chevy after its 5.8L supply (that it had comitted to order) ran out in around 2002. After 9/11, the economy tanked and Ford closed the plant that was going to be marinizing and now, no more Fords in ski boats.

Not if he has a decent R2 unit with a good motivator that can work on it.

Dont you guys think at sometime in the near future we will see the end of the 350 also??? Whats the new little Vortec 327, and then you have the 6.0 we already see.

Were the 351's not also on the way out because the engine was not in production anymore?

I may be wrong I just assumed the new generation motors will always replace the existing due to production issues.

I've got the same engine in my '87 TriStar and it has 1400 hrs on it. Has been serviced regularly and still is a great running engine. It should keep going as long as I take care of it.

Looks like 2001 or 2002 was the last year I can find boats with Ford engines. Bummer, I've just recently learned to love my Ford engine that is in my truck.

I don't think we'll see the 350 go anywhere anytime soon. How long has it been in production now? 40+ years?

The last SNs to have the GT40 was 2002 (you see GM and Ford that year).

OMG! without it, he will never make the jump to 36 MPH!!!!

I hope the old man disabled that tracter beam kid, or this is going to be a real short trip!
