The 14.5 x 22 is right for the L18 engine. Are the other details (cup?) of this prop right for my boat?

the 22 pitch is too much for the L18 on our 04 xstar, you don't get optimum rpms at wide open throttle and you dont get max top end mph ... since your boat is larger I'd imagine you will have a simmilar experience, what is your stock prop pitch?

here is my experience wth the 22 pitch on an L18 http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showpost.php?p=243082&postcount=22

Our stock prop is the 14.5 x 22. The '06 manual says that's the prop for the L18 for whatever boat it's installed in. Now I'm confused. I'll read thru the thread you sent and see what else I can learn.

As for actual performance nubmers on my boat, I haven't had the boat on the water since we picked it up because Global Warming missed Arkansas and we've been freezing our tails off all this week.

for a spare another 22 wouldn't be bad ... and actually, if you got the 22 you could take it to a good shop and have them do a bit of custom work to take out some diameter which could get you a more optimum max rpm at WOT

*** not to beat a dead horse, but the gear ratio and prop combination for the 197 MCX w/ slot (1.26:1) that is listed in the manual is wrong for both 06 and 07 ...

Well that explains a lot! Cool

What do you know about the ".110 cup," being made of brass, 3 vs 4 blades? from what I've read, OJ makes a good prop, no?

AFAIK there is not a 3 blade option that will work with the L18 (yet) ... both OJ (the OEM supplier to Mastercraft) and Acme (another popular brand used by a lot of TT members) ... make a great product ... and Eric Johnson actually posts on the website and is open to answering questions about his company's props ... and both will sell you a prop and let you try it for a short period of time and return it for refund if you don't like it ... I had heard that Acme will eventually have a 3 blade that might work with the 8.1, but I am not sure if that is available yet ... and I expect we will enjoy the 19.5 when we get the boat out this spring.

here is where I found some of my background info ... my understanding is that the larger cup is a way to "increase" the pitch ... so long as you have the rpms avaialbe the larger cup is a good thing as it will lead to more top end if I understand correctly
