"WORLD RECORD TOWBOATS" OR "WORLD RECORD TOW BOATS"?

I'M no English teacher, but why is it "TOWBOAT" and not "TOW BOAT"?

By closest definition (dictionary.com):

tow·boat
noun
1) See tugboat.
2) A powerful, shallow-draft boat with a broad bow, intended to push barges on rivers and canals.

towboat
noun
a powerful small boat designed to pull or push larger ships [syn:tugboat]

WHEREAS:

tow
verb (used with object)
1. to pull or haul (a car, barge, trailer, etc.) by a rope, chain, or other device: The car was towed to the service station.
noun
2. an act or instance of towing.
3. something being towed.
4. something, as a boat or truck, that tows.

Just curious.

Yep. That seems gramatically correct. But the other options were "TOWBOAT OF THE X-GAMES" and I think "WORLD RECORD TOWBOATS".

TOWBOAT doesn't really seem to fit by definition, that's why I changed mine up...

Hmm...not sure yet. I guess I'll have to do some investigating. Are wake boats invited?!? 8p

It should be Ski Boat instead of Towboat

Yes...but even on the "TOWBOAT OF THE X-GAMES" it's still "TOWBOAT" and not "TOW BOAT".

It just seems to me, grammatically, it should be 2 words. "TOW BOAT". As shown above/previously, by definition a 'towboat' is a specific type of boat...a tugboat. Whereas by having it 2 separate words ('TOW BOAT') it is a boat that tows.

tow
verb (used with object)
1. to pull or haul (a car, barge, trailer, etc.) by a rope, chain, or other device: The car was towed to the service station.
–noun
2. an act or instance of towing.
3. something being towed.
4. something, as a boat or truck, that tows.

boat
–noun
1. a vessel for transport by water, constructed to provide buoyancy by excluding water and shaped to give stability and permit propulsion.
2. a small ship, generally for specialized use: a fishing boat.
3. a vessel of any size built for navigation on a river or other inland body of water.

Anyway...it made me go  when I saw it.
