OK, like the title says..

My buddy is looking for a boat and I want him to get a MC. His wife prefers a slalom type cuz thats her thing, and he really wants to WB. Any suggestions out there for a perfect solution to both? He doesnt want to break the bank but as well wont cut corners to get the job done right. Perhaps a 03 or newer (25k or so). I suppose the right boat would bend his limits, so I need help finding a direction to point him.

He likes my X-star, but for some reason his prissy wife wont get behind it with a single  :D

Your help is appreciated,
Jason

My unmarried opinion:

I don't take no lip off of no woman about my boat preference, and I'd get whatever I want (as long as it's okay with her that is).

An X7 or a 197 with a tower would be a good compromise for both. Not sure if it will fit your friends budget though. I know Erk has a couple of 197's that would fit the bill. :D

There you go Erk, its all T'd up.

You might want to look at this (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=13994) thread for some comments on the X-2 as a crossover boat.

You might also want to look at these two threads as well:
1996-2000 ProStar 205 (and sister ships) (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=15198)
1995-1995 ProStar 190 (and sister ships) (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=14622)

Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, he doesnt want a motor in the middle. So a 190 wont fit the need.

209/X-9 gets my vote hands down. 2002 or newer and he will most likely be spending in the "or so" range. AWSA Tournament Slalom approved and Bad arse wake! Absolutely the best of both worlds. We'll see what the 214 does but the 209 was as close as it gets in my opinion. Motor is in the middle but have him look at it first. Tons of room on either side. Nice place to sit as well. No faults with this ride. Back seat becomes a sundeck and storage is abound!

Now I've only got 4hrs on my X9 but the room is outstanding! This is one of the major reasons we got this as opposed to a 197. The wake isn't bad at slalom speeds, and the ballast will provide a great wakeboarding wake. The X9 handles rough waters very well.

I agree, the 209/X9 would be the perfect choice. Tons of room, can fit four wide on the rear bench, lots of space around engine box, rear storage, tournament approved and a nice boarding wake.

Sorry guys....I was alittle late getting in on this one! I was outside winterizing a boat.....this weather sucks!

Well, as many have already hinted, your not going to find a boat that has been taken care of and is 2003 or newer and a v-drive for 25k.

If you want to go V-drive, I have a 2002 X-Star. If you want to go DD, I have a 2003 X-9 both of which will be in the 34-37k range.

If you want a v-drive for 25k, I have a list of about 30 people that will come in at a moments notice and give me a deposit on the spot for such a boat. I'll bump you up the list, but these boats DO NOT LAST long, and are hard to find.

My cell phone is 630-533-2760 if you have any questions I haven't answered yet on this board.

I have a friend selling this '04 X-9
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MasterCraft-X9_W0QQitemZ330105681841QQcategoryZ31271QQssPageNa meZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

He will slalom, surf, barefoot and wakeboard behind it, all very well, I might add. I thought it put out a nice, flat ski wake and a decent wakeboarding wake too with a little bit of weight in the back. I was seriously considering it before picking up my new one. I don't foot or ski and neither does anyone in my family, so a V-drive was more suited to me. Nice boat though. Not sure where it will end up on pricing,

my opinion, all but really advanced riders can have fun behind any tournament boat with some weight, and advance.

large wakes will make skiers timid, so I would go for the 197 or X7
