This came up on another thread and I just wanted to put it on its own heading in case people are interested.

Perfect Pass has a new version to their software for 2005 called 6.5N. The Perfect Pass site has not been updated yet and has no mention of it but Skier to Skier has info on their site here:

It may be time for me to upgrade from 6.4. I spend a lot of time outside the course and simple slalom would be very handy. If you forget to switch to straight rpm outside the course in 6.4, the absence of magnets will throw everything off and your speedo settings are upset. Plus, you have to remeber what RPM = what speed. Speed mode is bad for open water slalom IMO.

The memory thing will be handy, too as we will be spending more time in the course and it'd be nice not to have to update for each skier.

Does the chip just pop into the main module. What's involved in changing it?

To change the chip you disconnect power to the unit, take off the cover, use a chip puller to pull straight out, push new chip into place.

You can use your perfect pass as is outside the course, the magnets just time the course, they don't change rpms while going through the course, the rpm sensor changes speed as the skier loads the line.

Your chip can pull within record capable times now, I would take the wife out for a nice dinner, just the two of you cause soon there will be 3.

From what I know it just takes a couple of minutes to change the chip. Pop the old one out press the new one in. Pretty simple

I really like the memory feature for setups by name. That used to be one of the advantages Accuski held over Perfect Pass. The Skier-to-Skier page details the changes from ver 6.5 to ver 6.5N but what about the changes from ver 6.4 to ver 6.5? Anybody know?

Start thread hijack........

FWIW, if anybody has a drive by wire boat and is looking to add PP.
I have one I will sell at a reasonable price.
(the one I have is for DBW boats only)
PM me for more details

George, the one time I used the boat in slalom mode outside the course by accident, my speedo hasn't been right since. The RPM settings are fine, but the speedo reads very slow because it's set/updated by the course time. In 6.4, I don't think you can change it on the fly in wakeboard mode and have it carry over to slalom mode or rpm mode (fixed for 6.5). It's way down on my list at present. The differences in 6.4 to 6.5 were very minor. I'll probably just buy some magnets for the course instead (and take the wife out to dinner).

George,

You should change your handle to Dr George and start an advice thread!

Just be sure and throw in some Texas colloquialism!

Ric,

Just an FYI, when you sell the DBW they will need to send their ECM to Indmar for programming or it will not work.

I guess I don't understand. Are you saying when in the course in slalom mode X rpm's = X Speed when out of the course in the same slalom mode the speedo on PP is reading slower because it isn't timed?

I beleive when in wakeboard-speed mode it has different settings because you don't input information like skier weight and crew weight. Wakeboard speed mode is designed for speeds less than 26mph - it reads the paddlewheel not the rpm sensor.

Texas advice: To keep skis from hitting you in the head the adult females always weigh about 100lbs. How about that Ted?

George, thinking about it, it may have been user error, meaning, I may have hit recalibrate by accident (but maybe not as my baselines were never changed).

To calibrate the speedo in slalom mode, you have to, in 6.4, use a slalom course. Thus, when you get your baseline locked in for 36 mph, the speedo is set. You can manually calibrate it using a GPS in wakeboard mode, but it doesn't carry over. By running it in slalom mode outside the course, my belief was that I caused the speedo to be recalibrated. The pull in slalom mode outside the course felt almost like speed mode (lots of hunting).

Now your on to something, your baseline doesn't change when you hit the speedo recal button, only the digital mph setting changes. A bunch of us calibrate on the course in each of the slalom speeds we pull not just 36mph. Do the magnets and smartimer it the best thing since the cheeseburger. Another one for Ted.

Not speedo recal. Baseline recal. The speedo recalibration is automatic with baseline recalibration. I don' think the speedo recalibration feature is even available in slalom mode.

Long story short, this will be corrected with the magnets as I'm not big on messing with that hand timer while driving.

Does anyone know if the name feature is on the wakeboard verison of Perfect Pass?

east tx skier

As I understand it, the wakeboard pro and digital pro software is the same. I don't know if the wakeboard mode is different. Since wakeboard mode is a speed-based application, I wouldn't think you'd need a "name memory" function as opposed to slalom mode where there's skier weight, crew weight, and kx+/- are variables.

More important than you having to mess with a timer is the person driving for you, spouse or other, having to mess with a timer. There is also a wakeboard rpm function but I don't why you would use it.

does anyone know how much the chip upgrade will be... i would love to have the skier memory feature since i ski with friends whos weight , speed and kx values are so different .

BrianM

I think it is $65

Rodltg2; I haven't used those functions, does the kx, skier weight and such change the performance that much? I'm pretty much basic PP user.

Perfect Pass has the chip upgrade listed at $57.

Come on George, I want some honest to goodness Texas advice like

Perfect Pass? I don't need no stinking Perfect Pass

I got the Wildman and his cold beer calibrated arm to operate the throttle and pilot the 'craft near World Record capable times....

figure I should make it through the course (going around all the bouys) before I spend the big bucks.

So far my world record is 2 @ 15 off going through the gates, after the 2 ball it's kind of like watching a retard eat hot wings....

I have heard the Arkansas women you need to use 105lbs for the setting. I'm sure it's in the PP manual somewhere.

Well now you're just making me feel bad. But not because of my eating skills. ;)

Sounds like you and I could put on some exciting competitions given our similar PBs.

By the way, there's a Perfect Pass (plus), I believe, on ski-it-again.com for $700.

Reminds me of an hilarious Family Guy episode, but I'm not going to elaborate.
