We've been keen on a heater for a while - I read plenty here about it and I thought I would share our effort - reusing a heater from an old mini car.

For the Americans - a mini: http://www.rethinkfx.com/gallery/cooper.htm

The heater is a nice self-contained unit that fit nicely in the middle of the bow. I used the Y connector from Skidim - they were very simple to work with from a long distance and got it to NZ without hassle in a few days. The only hassle was getting a reducer brazed onto the y connector as the mini had 1/2" heater tube rather than the standard 5/8".

Its not the biggest but it blows good heat - one vent onto the drivers feet, and the other via the tube for the observer. Reducing the y connector size doesnt seem to be a problem.
