I got one through Indmar a couple of years ago. It also included a manual for Velvet Drive transmissions.

Nah, just been on this board for the past 6 years and reading what a lot of smart people have to say.

BriEOD,

If I remember correctly from pictures you posted some time ago the engine in yours is setup more like a PCM than an indmar in that the raw water pump is not located on the end of the crankshaft but is instead is belt driven. Also your alternator is on the opposite side of most indmars I have seen. The Ford part of the manual would be the same but the parts that make it a marine engine might be different due to the engine replacement on yours.

Maybe I am thinking of someone else.

Indmar has one for $30.00. P/N S998007C. It includes a Ford shop manual and a Velvet Drive manual but does not include the marinization components installed by Indmar. Call 901-353-9930 and ask for parts. Indmar accepts Visa or MasterCard. We also have a PDF copy of a parts catalog for the Ford engines that I have on my PC at work and will try to post tomorrow.

i'm having trouble with the battery not charging in this model indmar volt meter is reading just below 12v when running, are the internal brushes replaceable in this alternator ? is there anything else I should check?

Thanks

Call a alternator/generator overhauler and give them the number, they should be able to tell you on the phone. My guess is yes, but it might not be cost effective unless you do it yourself. I would just slap on a rebuilt. Good luck.

well I called the distributor for the prestolite alternator in australia and they don't sell parts for them in australia. Does anyone know if there are any problems switching to another type ie a 70amp etc

Regards
Jason

You can probably get one of our reputable MC dealers here on TT to get and ship you one or www.skidim.com (http://www.skidim.com).

Can a bad battery result in a low volt reading?

Why yes, yes it can.
All electrical systems tests, whether it's for the starting or charging system rely on the battery being it good condition first.

If the battery doesn't test good then any results you get from testing the charging system can also be suspect...

Did you figure out if you have an Indmar or PCM? I dug around and I have a 1983 PCM manual for "all Chevrolet and Ford based engines" that I could copy for you.
