I have a 2004 X7 with ballast in the back. I have a 500 lbs fatsac for the side we ride on. Has anyone ever tried the sac that goes in the ski locker? It's a good hiding place and I was wondering if the wood panel above the gas tank would hold the weight. I would like to try wiring it in with the ballst system. Any ideas?
We live in Oregon and are getting antsy about getting out on the water :wavey: . March 1st.....
Thanks,
Paul

Paul,
I have found that optimal wake for wakesurfing requires the addition of ballast to the front half of the boat. I have a 2000 X-star and have one fat sac on the starboard side and two fat sacs on the port side. I then fill the fat sac under the ski locker and finally I put one smaller fat sac under the bow cushion. Throws a Huge wake at 8-9 mph

Thanks T-Scott,
Is the Xstar Vdrive? Maybe a silly question, but my X7 is a 197 with the engine in the middle. The ballast is a sack under the back seat. We move the seat up and fill the sac until it spits out the side. I was watching the WakeSurfing World video, and they were pulling with Vdrives with some football player looking guys hanging off the back to the preferred side of the rider. I suspect that the 2 fatsac side is your riding side. Let me know.
Thanks again,
Paul

Correct on all accounts...My X-star is a V-Drive, I put two fat sacs on my riding side. I have done some wakesurfing behind another friends 1997 205, which is a similar configuration to your boat. He put two fat sacs along the back of the boat, the smaller side sacs on either side of the motor box and finally, one small sac in the bow.
Good luck! Great fun on those days it's to rough to ski or wakeboard.
bmxracer4,
we wake surf behind our 209 and us the following setup.
front ski locker sack only half full
factory sack under the back seat full only up to the bottom of the back seat with the back seat in the down position
500 lb standard fat sac in the back ski locker full
two fat buddies on the floor, on the surfing side
sometimes some waterbed tubes if we have a small crew
everbody sitting in the back on the surfing side
Your 197/X7 should like the same setup but with less weight overall since it has a smaller beam than the 209/X9.
The rear ski locker has a flexible composite plastic floor, not wood. This floor sits directly on top of the gas tank so the weight of the fat sac is supported by the gas tank, the flooring is really just a cover. Some dealerships will do a custom installation of a sack and pump in the rear ski locker so I am guessing they think there are no issues with it. I have my fingers crossed. I figure, worse case, I will get a stress crack in the gas tank and need a new tank 8 years from now.

Contact Mike on the MyMastercraft.com forum. He runs a dealership and mods X-7's with the bag in the ski locker instead of on the floor. I'm sure that he would be informative for this application.

Thanks for all the info guys! I will try Mike and try to get the rear ski locker setup. Hopefully no stress cracks. I like the idea of the small sack up front, too. I would think the boat drives a little better with some weight up front, especially at 9 mph.
Peace

Your sack setup...I am hoping to buy a X9 soon and it would be nice to have pictures of a good setup before I start buying new sacks and putting them in the wrong places.
