I have read a few threads discussing these and realize that some of you love them and some of you don't. I love mine, but I bent the mechanism pretty good, and need to get it replaced, but have a few questions:

Which model would I need for an '01 X-Star (X-2/X-1)?
Does anyone that has taken theirs off want to sell me thiers?
Has anybody ever bought parts for one spearately?
For those who have bought new ones, where did you get the best price?

Thanks.....

You want the Boat Buddy II. I know you can buy the shroud separately, but I don't know about the guts. I bought a replacement shroud from Kodiak Trailers in Ft. Worth, TX. They are the manufacturer and the deal was sweet. Apart from there, prices seem pretty consistent at upwards of $70 for a new complete system.

I'd like mine if it worked. It's just as easy to not mess with it.

wow $70?? i paid almost $200 at the dealer here. the goof ball that owned my boat before took it off and put some ugly a$$ rollers in place. i like the boat buddy , it just takes some getting used to.

You can PM me for pricing if needed, we aren't supposed to "sell" anything in the forums, only the market place.

With the new under cover moderators, I don't want any trouble :)

I believe if it is truly "straight from MC," there is an automatic drop ship charge on top of everything. That's not the dealer's fault, but it is the way it be and it doesn't make things less expensive.

Let's not get carried away with moderation. We can't let little things like "guidelines" put a dent in Erk's bizzness now can we... How else is he gonna pay for band camp?

Point taken, $125.

I don't see anyone selling anything. I see a random post with a numerical value in it. If anything that is one pricey point! For $125 I'll opt for the "Dull end taken, $70"

You keep right on making those random numerical posts so we can all sleep well at night knowing we support band camp!

Is there a softer shroud that doesn't mark the hull?

Not sure what thread it is on, but TMCNo1 carpeted his Boatbuddy to eliminate the marking problem. If he says its ok, it probably is..

I wish I could remember where, but there is a pic and a tutorial on how to do it. They can do advanced search with the words "Boat Buddy" and they should find it.

I spray mine with Armour All before I launch. It works great no marks.Someone on TT said to try it and it worked....Thank you.

On the advice of Harold and others, when I got my new shroud, I carpeted it. Unlike Harolds though, I cut separate small pieces for each surface of my boat buddy shroud that would contact the boat, then glued each of them into place. In two launches, it has worked fine and I am happy I went to the trouble of carpeting it (I say trouble, because I hate cutting patterns and the like).

Like many of you, I wish the people that invented this fine product would put a little R&D into a non-maring shroud. Since their patent has expired, I've got a good mind to have someone making some to sell.

I carpeted mine also. Only, I used 1 single piece. Using 3M spray-on glue, it worked great. Been there all last summer without any problems. I used actual "Bunk carpet" that Overtons, Westmarine, etc sell.

Here is a example of what the guys are talking about concerning the carpet on the Boat Buddy!

Then spray it down a couple times a year with some of this when the boats in the water so it will slide easy,

Harold, Are you sure you used a straight edge on that carpet. Looks a little ragged to me. LOL
