Anyone have any pictures of a spotter dummy they have used before. I have seen a couple variations on my lake when two people want to ski, but don't have a third for the spotter. Anything from a big stuffed animal, to an inflatable variety, to an actual clothing store mannequin. Whatever it takes to keep the boat cops happy.

Same for us. I think trying to circumvent the rule is bound to land you in more trouble than just breaking it.

Really, my daughter and I go by ourselves and I guess I would rather risk getting caught with just the two of us (spotter needed in IL.) than get caught tring to fool them. May just really tick them off!!!

Easier to play dumb and maybe get a warning if you don't have the spotter mannequin.

Does Cali still have that rule? I just was taught that you had to have 3 no matter what. Can't say I have actually looked into if it is still a requirement.

Yup. You still need a spotter in CA. I think they have to be at least 12 years old as well...

edit: I just checked the code, and the spotter must be at least 12 years old.

It'll be much easier if you move to texas. All you need is a 4"x4" mirror.

We don't have the spooter law here either, but I have heard Internet lore about people going to the local day laborer hangout and paying one of them to be your third. Prob cheaper than a ticket, and who wouldn't want that job !!!

I'm happy Texas doesn't have a law... I only have one good ski buddy now.

I love that law. MD has the same. You need to be 12 to spot, but there is no minimal age to drive :steering: (if accompanied by an adult)

You do need to be (I think 16 ) to drive without an adult in the boat.

You will have too many people that will be happy to go out with you on that X-2 any time of day. I think I might be getting the slalom bug, I am going to try it out again this weekend and see how it goes.

Do you know where you are going to live yet?

Hey I just had to throw another useless smartA$$ remark out there. First time I've seen pictures of the house. Looks good funny thing is what that thing wouldn't be going for out here. I guess those folks who went to sleep on the decision didn't wake up.

This thread has been officially jacked...

Allen is suburb living. Have you looked at Fort Worth at all? You get more bang for your buck as far as real estate goes.

That would be crazy to drive the mid-cities to Plano everyday. Oh wait, I drive from southwest Fort Worth to Farmer's Branch everday...

I need a spotter mannequin so I can drive in the HOV lane!

What are they going to arrest you for? Not having a life jacket for a dummy? ;) Come on....

Depends on how old the dummy is. I figure they'd probably find a way increase to increase the fine somehow. :o Or start looking really closely at other things to bust you on. Or, at the very least, not just send you back to the dock. Again, it's a hypothetical for me. We just need a driver and a mirror.

I equate it to getting pulled over for speeding and when the cop walks up to the window, your radar detector is going off like crazy. Sure, there's no law against it (here), but your chances of getting a warning just went way down. But with the dummy, it's not exactly easy to stick him in the glove compartment unnoticed.
