I'm still searching for either a 230 Maristar or an X-30.

The X-30 is starting to look better to me, even though I'm not part of the young boarding crowd (42). It's the same boat as the 230 Maristar with a little more attitude. I think it will hold its value better because of the tower and the wakeboard craze. I like it because it's different than most v-drives around.

I would like to hear from some owners of both, and what do you think about slalom, boarding and barefooting behind these boats.
I posted a similar message before on the 230, but not the X30.

Lets hear from some X30 owners out there. :)

I agree that the X 30 will resale more easily because it is an X series boat.
As for water sports ,even if i never been behind one, i'm pretty sure it's an amazing wakeboard boat and.......that's about it! I'm sure you can ski behind one but not a good slalom ski boat.Maybe you can barefoot behind it but definetely not a good barefoot boat.
In my opinion,if you go with an X 30, you got to be into wakeboarding or day cruisin...
Are you looking to buy new ?

Andre,

Not new but a 2001-2003 would be nice. I like the X30 and 230 for the extra room, 2 kids and some friends.
I would ski behind it myself, but it's more for the family to ski behind.

I can always hook-up with TallAndy with his prostar for skiing the course. (Right Andy?) :D

NJSkier -

I just went thru this same situation. I started off with a '88 PS190, then moved to a '95 PS205 (hence, my screen name) and now just got a '02 X-30. I thought about getting a fully loaded Maristar with tower, ballast, etc... but figured the X-30 would hold its resale value alot better with the wakeboard crowd. I have only taken it out once. It certainly does not drive like my '95 PS 205. This is a big boat - especially mine - it have the 8.1L engine.

As for skiing, I don't think it will be that bad. The only time I had it out, I had it at skiing speeds (34-36 mph) and the wake did not look that big.

Botton line, the engine in the back, it makes for alot more room, which is what my wife and I were looking for with our 2 kids.

Have fun looking.

I am still a devout fan of the direct drive inboard. My open bow '97 Prostar 205 with the extra jump seat has all the room I could want. When I really want room I put on the Skylon and let people sit in back. I agree with whoever said that if you get the V-drive, you should really be into wakeboarding.

Nothing pinwheels like a direct drive Mastercraft!

Andy,

I figure if I get my hands on an X30, we have the best of both.
You and Kevin are welcome anytime to go "boardin" behind the X :D

As the others have stated, I bought the X30 over a direct drive for the extra room that it provides. I spend the days doing all sorts of watersports and cruising, not just skiing or wakeboarding, so I wanted a good all around boat. For wakeboarding it's great, for skiing, the wakes are manageable for recreational skiers. If you like running a course, look elsewhere. For a good all around boat, it fits the bill.

If you're looking for space, you'll love the X30. We just traded our ProStar 205 for a 30. All of the jackets and ropes and other stuff that was filling the 205 to the gills just... disappeared when we moved it to the new boat. Like everybody else, we got the 30 mostly for the space, but we also primarly wakeboard. Haven't had it long enough to get a skiier up behind it, but the wake looks like it'll be ok for a recreational skiier. I'm new to this board, but it looks like there's a lot of serious skiiers here. I doubt that the wake would be acceptable to most of you.

About the boat? Love it. No, it does not handle quite as tightly as our ProStar did, but I'm more than ok with that, given what we gained in size. Again, though, it depends on how you want to use your boat. For us, it fits perfectly what we want out of a boat & we couldn't be happier with our new baby.

Thanks for your input, WakeSeeky! And welcome to the board! :D

My family has grown to 4 and although my old 94 prostar was a great boat back then, I don't see it suiting our needs as well as an X30.

I'm buying this boat (hopefully) to please the entire family, not just me.
We do like cruising also, and the prostar we had was not a great boat for that, unless the water was fairly smooth (which it almost never is).

You can do so much with these boat today, there's even a barefoot boom available for v-drives from THE BAREFOOT CO. Not the best barefoot boat, I'm sure, but much better than any I/O out there.

Can't wait to be part of the MC family again. Its been a long time (8 years) since I owned my prostar. (I even have a custom airbrushed picture of her on my motorhome's spare tire cover)

Thank you! This is a great board, lot of information here...

Good luck with your search, hope you find a great boat, whatever that turns out to be!
