Why do they put tower lights on wakeboard boats if you're not permitted to ski or board after sunset? (At least not in NJ)

Does anyone actually use these? Is it legal in other states to drive the boat with them on, much less ski or board in the dark?

The only thing I can think of is for use on a private lake.
Anyone know the real scoop?

it is definately illegal in california, but so is drinking and driving a boat. people do it until caught. lake shasta is so big with few patrol at night, pretty hard to get caught.

They can be handy if you are trying to dock at night or load the boat in the dark. I have two pairs of the m on my X-star and use them regularly.

The cops are not very strict around here. We do ALOT of night surfing behind the boat. My lights are one of the most used accesories I have.

It's all about vanity -- wakeboarding has got to be the most vane sport out there. How much $$ can I put in my boat.

I'd prefer docking lights over tower lights, but I've yet to see an MC w/ docking lights.

1. Looks cool. (There, I said it.)
2. Docking at night.
3. Light when taking a night time cruise with the old lady.

I figured it was the "cool" factor!

Might come in handy at dusk for those end-of-the-day runs.

on our private lake, skiing is banned after dusk,,,,but you can't resist that one last foot,so the lights come on.......well worth the little slap on the wrist..... ;)

I don't have them, but it would be useful for when she says, one last run with you Dad!

A must for night docking...and seeing other idiot drivers or them seeing me.

A must for night docking...and seeing other idiot drivers or them seeing me.If I had a tower I would have lights specifically for seeing and being seen. When I go for a dusk/sunset booze cruise the million candle power light is on board.

Leroy,

Great pic with your daughter.

I always liked skiing with my dad, and now I can look forward to skiing with my 2 kids. This summer's gonna be great!

We had a guy on Sammamish show us how cool his tower lights really were. Apparantly he left a towel draped over the tower & someone inadvertantly turned on the lights. No one knew any better till the tower caught on fire! He quickly threw the towel overboard thinking it would all go the water. Instead he had little bits & pieces of flame spray all over the back seat & engine cover..... leaving probably 20 little burn marks behind!
