has anyone ever had surgery on any tendons in the hand? My training partner (triathlon) got a cut last week on the top of his hand, the stitches are ready to come out but there is a worry that the tendon connect to the thumb has been sevored. He is getting an MRI this week, if it has been cut they will have to take some tissue or something from his pinky and repair the one for the thumb, has anyone every experienced this or known someone who has? If so, is the recovery a really long one?

Thanks.

Tendon repairs are usually 6 weeks in a splint, then several more weeks not lifting anything heavier than a coffee cup. Generally, we're talking 4-6 months after tendon surgery before someone could, say, water ski.

These parameters vary somewhat depending on what tendon is cut, how it's cut, whether or not there's tissue loss, and how it's going to be repaired...etc.
