View Full Version : Scratch Repair
I have an 89 PS190 that has a large scratch on one side in the black. I was wondering if anyone has used the do it yourself gelcoat repair and if so does it work good?

Jbh are you talking about the repair kit from, http://www.spectrumcolor.com (http://www.spectrumcolor.com/) If so, no I have not.. But I did talk to a guy at the Co. and he assured me it was an appropriate do it yourself project..

I have used this do it yourself kit a handful of times now - bought from my MC Dealer. It can work very well if done right. The hardest part is getting the exact color match but you can work that one if your are patient and diligent. I have found that putting the plastic over the epoxy like the directions say and smoothing it out is key - even thought I thought it would stick after the time limit they suggest. If you have mixed the epoxy correctly, believe the instructions. Then, set your watch and remove the plastic when they say too - it will be smooth. My buddy borrowed my kit and did a nice job as well, He used wax paper as an alternative instead of the plastic and his job turned out just as nice. Good luck!

I agree "The hardest part is getting the exact color match" and even though I notice the repair few of my guests notice it until I ask them to look close. It is one of those things that practice helps. Of course, who wants more reasons to practice!
