I'm new to this forum. We have purchased a 07' X2 and will take delivery in March. I've got 2 boys who want to wakesurf. We all ski and wakeboard, but have never wakesurfed. How do we set up the ballast tanks and or weight, so we get the correct wake?

They have some very good advice.

everything in the back left! As much weight as you can back there, and it will throw a nice surf. But if you have little boys, like then 125, i think you could just get by with filling up the back left tank and surfing off that. Don't have anything in the bow, or driver side. Then have the people sit in the back left corner. Drive about 1-12 mph, at a slight angle going left.

Your going to want to put some fat sacs in the rear hatch, and possibly on the floor in the middle of the boat.
The more weight the better :)

Thanks. Boys are 10 & 12, and have no fear. We are looking forward to getting the boat on the water. This is our first MC after years of "other" boats.

If you board goofy (right foot foreward), then everyone on the driver's side of the boat. Fill the right aft and center ballast tank. If they are not goofy then everyone on the left side of the boat, fill the left rear and center ballast tank.
Set the speed control at 10, then tab down (I don't remember if the x2 has a tab) enough to clean up the frothy stuff on the wake. You may have to adjust the speed to suit the surfer's preference or to clean up the wake.
Have fun.

On all 2007 X-2's, the attitude adjustment plate is an option:cool:

get the tab (Sorry, the Attitude Adjustment Plate). More ability to tune the wake which is fun for the driver. 'cause driving while surfing isn't a huge amount of fun...

My personnal experience on ballast for wakesurf is to have some in the middle of the boat as well. My X5 is a DD similar to the newer X7 and having some weight and people more in the front (60% rear - 40% front/side of the engine bay) push the boat deaper in the water and creates a nice wake.
Our boats are totally different but you should experiment various fat sac placement. Don't underestimate the effect of the hull if you make it sink in deaper...
Have fun.
:twocents:
PS: if you have not bought a wakesurf yet, don't buy a beginner one (too large) as the learnig curve is extremely fast.

Went out with some guys who were pretty into it. Depending on which foot forward the rider was, they shifted ballast to one side of the boat, had all crew sitting on that side of the boat, and ran the boat in wide circles, varying their turn to get just the right curl/shape out of the wake.
Not sure if I'd appreciate the turning method if I was getting ready to ski, but in February, that didn't seem to be much of an issue.

Put most of the weight in the back corner you want to surf on. In this picture there is a 750 lb sack in the port locker and about 8-10 people on the port side, only 1 or 2 in the bow. You basically want to get the rub rail near the water. Weight in the front of the boat will make the surfable pocket longer, more weight in the back will make the wave taller with a shorter surfable pocket......Tinker around with the weight and try to drive the boat in a straight line.......That is me on the sunpad and it is illegal, dangerous and I got a ticket for it last year

This is a family friend, 13 years old, surfing behind our X1. I know its a totally different hull, but we were able to surf this season with nothing but stock ballast. In the picture we had filled the 250 hard tank in the left rear and the 300 center sac, and had two adults on the port side of the boat at 10 mph. I think many people tend to blame their inability to surf due to an insufficient wake, but what really is important is getting the technique down. Once you figure out how to distribute your weight, it just gets easier and easier.

Throw as much weight as you can in the left rear. Fat sacks are the best option, but you can also have people sit in that area.
I think the easiest is to start in the water, to the left of the boat, with your board perpendicular to the direction the boat is travelling.
Have the driver throttle up fairly quick and hit around 9-11.
Have fun!

^I about crapped my pants one day when I was sitting like that and the wildlife officer came around the bend. He went by, waved at me (friendly) then quickly grabbed the wheel with both hands while going over my wake. he kept rolling though.

Fill the center and the passenger rear ballests, then have your 200+++ lb. buddies sit in the rear. Its great fun.
For the X-15 owners, any comments on wakesurfing with that boat with the stock ballast system which takes about 650 lbs ?

I'm not an owner, but I hear the X-15 can throw an excellent surf wake. More weight on the side and back of the boat you're riding on the better.

You can surf stock ballast with a few people in the boat. However, get a V-drive sac for the rear storage, and two sacs to put under the seats by the observer and your set!

erkoehler,
I have seen somewhere that in 2007 stock ballast for the X-series would be increased to 1,000 lbs.
If so, I would like to know when as my boat will start being built beginning of April.
Thanks,

Here's a few pics with the center and corner ballast filled and probably 4 people in an X15
