I just got a new Chevy Silverado and I was wondering about how much of a drop hitch I am going to need on it. Dont want to go out and but a bunch untill I get it right.

I believe it says in the manual the correct hitch height is between 18"-20"... I know that my friend uses a 2" lift hitch on his Silverado when he tows my boat.

Owners manuals usually say top of ball should be somewhere around 18" above the ground to start, IIRC. You will just have to do the math, based on what elevation your receiver is.

On a 2000 Silverado 4 wheel drive with reese hitch with a strait drawbar and 2" ball the trailer runs level on my setup.
Added this web site in case you want to adjust your trailer hitch height at the lake, I have one similar to it!!!

my bro in law once tried to tell me that using the hitch to raise the height (flipped over) was not as strong as having it inthe normal position
I had to call http://www.rejectsworld.co.uk/forum/images/smiles/icon_bsflag.gif

I saw these at Home Depot the other day... I thought it was a great idea, as it is difficult to get a locking pin into my reciever because of the close proximity of my receiver to my 7-round electrical hook-up. I think I might pick one of these up!!!

I've read about it somewhere several times and it's been discussed on here quite a bit and I lucked out 18 years ago, cause mine came out 18 1/2", 190 lbs. of tongue weight and is perfect. The boat rub rail is parallel with the ground and tows/stops like a dream.
