got a computer friend that's got a business and she needs a flatbed scanner that will work with XP

currently she's got a HP Scanjet 3400C, and the latest HP software V1.1 will not work on any XP machine, but works fine with my kid's 98SE.<--- the software installed, but my oldest son hasn't scanned anything with it

she doesn't want to buy one of the 5 in 1 printers, because she's bought 5 print cartridges for he HP DeskJet.

Wal-Mart, Sam's, BestBuy.... don't have scanners only!

hey.................forgot about ebay!

Brian, I bet it wasn't three weeks ago that I threw one out in the trash:( It was 8 years old but don't see why it wouldn't have worked with XP

yes, this particular scanner came from the factory with version 1.0, and I went online and downloaded version 1.1... it claimed to be written for XP

so far, 2 of her XP machines will not run the scanner with V1.1, and my XP laptop will also not run it with V1.1

my next step is to install it on the kid's 98SE computer to prove the scanner even still works

HP Scanjet scanner 5590 and it works great.

Looks like it should work on XP. Assume you have been here but if not.

Best Buy should have flatbed scanners by themselves. Our store does. I got one there for my mom 2 weeks before christmas.
