Have a JL e6450m and a Clarion APX480M amp to mount - where is best place to mount them to keep them dry & cool? Leaning toward next to batteries in engine compartment for short power runs - and I figure amps should stay as dry/cool as batteries - does that make sense? Both are marine rated amps. I have a 2000 Larson 226 SEI with large aft engine compartment.

Thoughts/comments on where you guys have your amps greatly appreciated.

Also, anyone have a link to sites/info on making amp boards or amp access/orientation/wiring for best tuning?

Thanks for any/all help guys! :D

Well amps are not ignition protected so they really shouldn't be mounted in the engine compartment. That is also technically against ABYC code.

You have the right idea though as far as minimizing the power run, so look for a locker as close to the battery as possible.

FYI you have a 50A (Clarion) and 60A (JL) power amp, totaling 110A. Suppose you will have a 10 foot run from the battery to the amps. You would then need to run 2 gauge wire to a fused distribution block and then split, or separate 4 gauges to each. Most guys undersize their power wire which will starve their amps of current and make them run hotter which adds distortion and shortens the life of the amp. You should also make sure you match gauge sizes for + and -.
