"A fence-building company in Southern California agrees to pay nearly $5 million in fines for hiring illegal immigrants. Two executives from the company may also serve jail time. The Golden State Fence Company's work includes some of the border fence between San Diego and Mexico."

Maybe they only worked on the Mexico side of the fence!

Boat Driving Dog Nearly Drowns Owner

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/orange/orl-html-boatvideo020907,0,7112651.htmlstory?coll=orl-home-headlines

"Ocoee police helped rescue a man from Starke Lake late Thursday after his dog gunned the engine and knocked him from the boat.

As the man cried for help, his dog could only sit and circle him in the boat.

The accident took place about 7:50 p.m. as Robert Bates, 46, of Ocoee was preparing to head home with Shadow, his black Labrador, after an evening of fishing, Officer James Berish said."

WATCH WHERE YOU STICK YOUR FINGER!

ROCKLEDGE -- You've heard of snakes on a plane. But what about snakes at Wal-Mart?

John Page said he never fathomed being bitten by a pygmy rattler while shopping for potted plants at his neighborhood supercenter. But what he found even more startling, Page said today, was that it had happened to at least seven other shoppers at Wal-Marts across the country.

And, the giant retailer is doing nothing to protect its customers from the poisonous reptiles that slither into its garden centers, Page said.

"When the floor is wet, they put up a cone (warning customers) that it's slippery and to use caution,'' said the 41-year-old Rockledge man whose right pinky was badly mangled by the bite on Nov. 18. "But there are no signs trying to prevent this from happening again.''

Page and his attorney, Scott Baughan, said they decided to hold a press conference today to warn the public about the dangers.

Baughan said he has documented seven Wal-Mart attacks since 1987, including one in Sanford this past summer. Each time, he said, Wal-Mart officials called it "an isolated incident.''

Wal-Mart officials could not be reached for comment early today.

I think a "group of personal watercraft enthusiasts" on my lake would bug me more than jumping sturgeons...

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/state/orl-bk-jumpingfish-041907,0,3910545.story?track=mostemailedlink

OLD TOWN, Fla. -- A sturgeon jumped out of a river and hit a woman riding a personal watercraft causing severe injuries, the latest accident involving the flying fish along the Suwannee River, officials said. Sharon Touchton, 50, of St. Petersburg, suffered a ruptured spleen and had three fingers reattached by surgeons, but she lost her left pinkie finger and a tooth.

She had been camping March 31 with a group of personal watercraft enthusiasts near the town of Suwannee in north Florida, said Karen Parker with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The group went for a ride and Touchton was traveling 25 to 30 mph before the accident.

Her fingers had been sheared off by the sharp edge of the sturgeon's bony plate. They were hanging by a strip of flesh. She was taken by helicopter to Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where surgeons did their best to mend her injuries.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/nationworld/orl-bk-fall062007,0,1761487.story?coll=orl-home-headlines

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Police today were investigating how a naked couple fell 50 feet from the roof of a downtown office building to their deaths.

The bodies were found on the road by a passing cabdriver at about 5 a.m. today.

Clothing was discovered on the roof, leading authorities to suspect the man and woman, in their early 20s, may have been having sex. Their identities were not released.

"It's too early to rule out anything," Columbia police Sgt. Florence McCants said, but McCants said a preliminary investigation didn't show any sign of foul play.

I guess I have fallen out of bed during the deed, but I think I'd be more careful on top of a building.

Here's a useful tip: THE BRAKE PEDAL IS ON THE LEFT YOU MORON!!!
(I'd be so good at this...)

Not a news story thankfully, but an elderly couple brought in their new Grand Cherokee with push-to-start for me to do some work on it. The wife left it outside and handed me the keys. About 30 minutes later I went to pull it in and realized it was still running. No big deal until I opened the door and saw it was STILL IN DRIVE WITHOUT THE EBRAKE ON! Just enough of a slope up to my shop that it wouldn't roll up it, and not too much that it rolled backwards into traffic, thankfully. Apparently she thought taking the key out of the car would shut the engine off--it does not, you need to push the Start button again to do that. Also, it needs to be put it park by hand.
