What was the first year that the 197 had the hook put on the hull? 02 or 03?

Can someone post a pic. It's nothing more than a little down turn of the bottom of the hull at the trailing edge. Almost indiscernable. Pushes the front of the boat down at speed.

Someone on here mentioned they had it added to their boat.

I had it added to my 2002 PS197 and it worked great. My dealer did the work and you could not tell the difference between mine and the factory original version, but then again, my local dealer is top notch.
I will caution anyone that choose to do this on one thing... when we added this, I also kept the original "t-rudder" that came on the 197 that year, so I had twice as much lift in the rear of the boat. This made for a great slalom wake, however, if you tried to put a boom on the boat, the spray coming off the side was dramatically increased, due to the fact that the nose was puched down into the water further at speed. Had I not moved into a 2005 197, I would have changed out the rudder to see what effect that had.
All in all, great investment.

Several have. Really something you want done by the dealer (or the dealer's glass guy if you know how to get in touch with them directly). If you're in or near Texas, I've got the guy's phone number for you.

Simple terms, it's a built in trim tab!

I had the dealer add it to our '01 209 last winter and I'm very pleased with the results! :)

what I want to know is.... is there anyway way to add the hook to the spray pockets on a 91-94 PS, like on a Pro-Tour Bud boat???

Didn't M/C just come out with a new boat designed for the hook? Or was that the boat that you could put a bike rack on? Just can't remember:)

I have a description of the 94 PT spray mod from someone who saw it up close. He described it as if someone took a rattail file to the last inch or so of the spray relief pocket. So it is sort of hooked, but unlike the transom hook on the newer boats, is more like a recess than an addition of materials. I spoke to my local MC fiberglass guru (who has done several transom hooks for MCs around here) and he'd never heard of this mod before.

JKSKI, does this mean the 2002 with original rudder AND hook, has more sidespray than your 2005? How much top speed loss did you experience?

I'm still hookless, since we enjoy footing too, plus I like the 47.5mph top end off the Predator. Clearly, though, my ski wake could be improved.

My 2002 with the original "T" style rudder and hook did have more sidespray than my current 2005, however in my opinion, the slalom wake was smaller albeit with a bit of a different shape...just my opinion though. Again, had I kept the 2002, I would most likely have changed to the rudder that came standard on the TT boats, which is what was used in 2003 from my understanding.
As far as top speed, with both lifting mechanisms in place I lost about 2-3MPH depending on where people were sitting. If I put people on the rear bench, I only lost about 1mph, but if they were beside the driver or on either side of the motor box, I would lose 2-3mph.
Hope this helps.

That does help. I guess then I would likely lose 1-3mph if I hooked and re-ruddered. Something to think about.....

If you hook the hull and go with a standard straight rudder, then you most likely will only lose about 1-2mph off top end. If yo are going to change rudders, you might check into the 2006 rudder to see if it is compatible. If it is, then I'd suggest going with it, as it seems to be the best rudder for the boat thus far. It offers more surface area and really helps the boat to perform even better (it is just my opinion).

As I understand it, the 06 rudder is compatible with an 01 or 02 (not TT boat) retrofitted with a hook.

EST, do you mean to the outer edge.... like, file some off the underside to form a hook on the outer-under edge?
did he say if it worked??

I asked the same question. I sent him this picture and he said I had the idea right. (See the little mark in the top of the relief pocket above the arrow?) I believe it was successful in reducing spray by about one line length?

Are you getting into 38 off or something?

DooSPX

not yet, LOL but I just wanted to know... I really dont plan on getting rid of the boat, so when ever (if ever) I proceed and be able to ski extream short line, atleast i have a way to reduce the spray.
thanks Easty!

It's official! You guys have WAY too much time on your hands. I posted this question because my buddy is looking for a new boat and I couldn't remember what year the hook appeared. MYMC answered the question quickly and efficiently and I figured this thread would fade off into obscurity. Boy was I wrong. Keep going guys. 8p
