So, now who's to blame for her death?
Was it ruled a suicide

I hate to hear of tragedy like this. Could you imagine the contest if it were beer though? We have alot of TT members that could drink alot till they had to bilge. Just keep them out of the water.

This actually happens pretty often from water. Pretty ironic people that eat like 100 hot dogs and then people die from too much water.

I guess the question is does the radio station have any responsibility for holding a contest where it is know people die from this practice and then someone dies. I think they do.

One of the students at my college died ofthe same thing. They were making him drink lots of water as a part of pledging. Many of the members of the frat got charged in his death.

In my way of thinking, it is not toxic so you body does not throw it up and then your body can't handle it.

Doesn't it thin out the electrolytes in your blood to a point that is lethal? (Didn't perform the search on the attached Google link because I am lazy, and at least believe I know the answer.)

Hyponatremia occurs as a result of excessive water intake. With rapid development of hyponatremia comes brain swelling which results in herniation of the brain stem. Unfortunately not altogether uncommon in brain trauma situations. We did a similar stunt at a youth group activity a few years ago but used milk instead. We limited the volume and the kids were much more likely to puke. Around that time we had a kid come to our ER with water intoxication who eventually did ok. I don't think our youth group will try it again with any liquid.
