Probably the same off-shore cheapo as that $399 Westinghouse you posted about. Case is a little different, but I'll bet the motherboard and basic components are identical.

Reliability won't be as good, service will typically be a nightmare, but at that price, it may not be a bad deal depending on how badly one needs those things, how much they're willing to pay for them, and whether or not they feel lucky.

Looks like pretty good deal. At least looking at prices Tigerdirect looks great. To bigmac's point has anyone bought from them and how are they?

I've bought hundreds of dollars of things from them.......

I have been posting on one of those westinghouse $399.00 laptops SINCE October! The only computer I've been on all this time.

already downloaded and burnt at least 100 DVD's
have a 160 gig HDD running onthe USB 2

the rebate was back to me within 2 weeks. In check form....

notice my cingular phones purchases through Cingular are going to come back to me in a VISA card.

Same here. I've used them numerous times - couple of laptops, and other small items. Their rebate specials are hard to beat price-wise. I've never had any problems getting the rebates back quickly.

As the big guys outsourced their manufacturing, the competition for that business really drove a high level of quality and consistency across the PC market.

Once you are buying from Intel/AMD, Microsoft and few other suppliers the rest is mostly a screwdriver operation......
