Rick has the urge for a new truck. He has his eye on a new Silverado. Have any of you seen them up close and personal yet?

We are going to the auto show to look at trucks and other cool things. Anyone else going there?

We went to the auto show yesterday. Rick has been there several times in past years, but I never went before. I thought it was amazing. I have a lot of really nice pictures to go through and pick some cool ones to post. I'll probably do that tonight.

However, before I get going with my favorites pics I thought I would post what I think fits in the category of the worst of show. It is a concept car made by China's Hunan University. It had an odd shape, but l what I found the most amusing is the wheel placement. Check this out. There is one wheel in the front, one in the back, and one in the middle on each side. I wonder how that would handle in ice, snow, and other bad road conditions?

Here's a front view of the same car.

OK that is ugly. How did you like the Silverado?
Thanks for the pics. I love to see what's new. Did they have the Camaro?

Sure would be fun to change a flat on that front or back wheel!

You didn't by chance get a photo of the new Ford F250 Crewcab/Megacab (or whatever they are calling the new one built to compete with the Dodge Megacab)? I had heard that Ford was coming out with it, but have not seen it.

I also was at the auto show on Saturday. They have some pretty cool cars out. By the way....the Silverados at SWEEEEET!!!! They also had the new Camaro there. They are going to be really cool looking. The front looks like it is smiling at you. Sorry no pics.

If anyone else get to make it to the show check out the Chevy 4500 super duty. Air ride cab and a nice setup for the low low cost of $84,000.

O yeah and check out the lamborghini cars. The chicks are amazing!!!

Here is a link to a bunch of the pictures I took (http://picasaweb.google.com/Sue.DeVries/DetroitAutoShow)at the auto show. Better ask someone else who went if you want info about the vehicles. I was just there being camera happy :)

Rick was there sitting in trucks and asking truck questions. I'm sure he or one of the others who went can give you real answers to quetions. I can only tell you about what ones I liked for looks. :D

The volt is a concept car. It isn't supposed to be ready till 2010 because they are still trying to get the batteries right. It's a hybrid that you plug in. With a full charge they say you should get your first 40 miles with no gas usage. They say to expect an estimated 150 equivalent miles per gallon when you use this electric battery and gasoline-combination to drive approximately 60 miles per day.

I want a hybrid car for my next car. I drive a lot and use lots of $$$$ on gas. I was quite interested in the volt.

By the way that big backlit Cadillic emblem was on the wall in their display area.

Ford had a number of 2008 F350 "Super Duty" trucks on display. I think we ended up with more pics of those than the F250s. Notice that Ford has added a fold out step for the tailgate (http://picasaweb.google.com/Sue.DeVries/DetroitAutoShow/photo#5020359029525523282). They were pushing it big time, but I'm not so sure about it.

However, I did find out that Ford strapped the springs down on their trucks on display so that the beds were 6" lower "for a better displaying attitude" (says one of the sales people.) So when I stood next to the truck on display I was not getting a real-life feel for the height of the tailgate and truck bed.

Why is it Ford contines to put kiddie seats in the rear of thier club cabs?
I swear they are the same size as the extended cab. Not an impressive effort by Ford. That step thing  I did not like it.

SUE - Thanks for the photos. I looked at every one!!!!!

saw a new silverado on the road today... I did a double take.. I think I like it alot.

I am partial to the Silverado (currently have one I love!). I am quite impressed with the new Silverado. Some new features that caught my eye:
- extended cab rear door opens 170 degrees (http://picasaweb.google.com/Sue.DeVries/DetroitAutoShow/photo#5020432168523613890)
- extended cab rear door windows roll down all the way (http://picasaweb.google.com/Sue.DeVries/DetroitAutoShow/photo#5020434135618635474) (no more 2" crack to open the window
- the center front seat console flips up (http://picasaweb.google.com/Sue.DeVries/DetroitAutoShow/photo#5020362383894982786) to create a 3rd seat and the whole middle seat lifts for more storage under it
- the tool management system in the truck bed is slick. Your toolbox can be easy to access or easily removed (without having to unbolt anything.)
- the tailgate is easier to open and close due to a new counter-balance system
- rear seat can be lifted without releasing a latch (http://picasaweb.google.com/Sue.DeVries/DetroitAutoShow/photo#5020434165683406562) (making it easy for the front seat passenger to lift the seat while on the road) and it has a 60-40 split.
- locking tailgate (http://picasaweb.google.com/Sue.DeVries/DetroitAutoShow/photo#5020435845015619314)
- trailer electric hookup moved up next to license plate (http://picasaweb.google.com/Sue.DeVries/DetroitAutoShow/photo#5020435943799867138)

One disappointment: A little less leg room in the back seat of the extended cab.

Thanks for the nice comments, I'm glad you liked the photos.

I've loved taking pictures ever since I was a little kid and got my first camera just before going to camp the year between my 2nd and 3rd grade of school. I learned how to develop film and prints in 6th grade and its been a really fun hobby ever since.

" that rear seat on the blue silverado LTZ looks liike a cantilever design.....no front braces

I was looking at one today, the rear seat is now cantiliver and they flatend out the rear floor. The seat bottom lifts up and stows vertically against the seat back. While it is quicker and easier than the two step method of folding the bottom foward and the top down it does take up quite a bit of front to back space in the stowed position. But it does eliminate the interference between folding down the rear seat and having the front seats back far enough for taller drivers.
Short version-

Pros:
easier to fold up
lower load in hieght
no support brackets in the way for under seat storage of big items
taller drivers don't have to move seat foward to fold up seats

Cons:
less usable floor space for dogs or stuff
no braces to keep small items in place
