I like gas motors,
Diesels are cool,
but
Turbines take the cake.
Plus I know a guy that can get the parts.
The upside is parts are cheaper if they don't have to be certified for flight.

I could save you a ton on this stator case if you didn't want it to fly.

There is a guy in California toolin' around ON THE STREETS with a turbine powered VW beetle...And he apparently has his hands FULL with attorney's fighting with the DMV.... It's a good thing he didn't break rule #1 and have an object protruding 24" from the rear of the vehicle... His turbine protrudes 23"...

AND..

Anyone seen Jay Leno's new Turbine car...That thing is SWEET!!!

The turbine powered beetle is an old job, made by a company in the '60's called Turbonetics. There was a feature in Hot Rod a few years ago and I have some old Popular Mechanics where they used to advertise in the back. Must have been something to see. I've seen Leno's turbine bike on Speed. That thing is nuts too. There was a guy selling a cigarette boat on ebay last year with twin turbine power, he called it the ulitmate poker run machine. I tend to agree, anything that sounds like a 747 taking off down the river is scoring serious cool points with me.

WFT,
I just googled jet beetle and it has become obvious that you and I are talking about 2 different things. The new beetle that you were talking about is cool, uses the thrust of the turbine to propel the car. This is how the jet dragsters work, they are like a roller skate with the turbine strapped to it. The beetle that I am talking about, also cool, uses the shaft power and is hooked to a Franklin quick change. I guess they were holy terrors in the 60's 10 second 1/4's and stuff. I'll have to dig that stuff up. There was also a turbine powered Can-Am car in the 60's for a year or two (for those of you who remember that series). It was before my time, but I go see those monsters every summer at a vintage race at Road America. Anyways that car worked the same way, shaft horse power running a quick change.
