My son rented it the other night, and I had heard alot of talk about Jaimie Fox's acting, but I thought Cruise stole the show... He was into that part, and succeeded.... This coming from someone who doesnt really care for Cruise........

milkmania,

what program are you using to burn DVDs? Farmer Ted,

I'm doing everything with DVD Shrink 3.2 (totally free & no nag screens)

here's a great tutorial!!! http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/

it encodes, and shrinks all in one simple step, just gotta make sure you have enough hard drive space for the temp file.......

mine creates a temp file in the C directory, after the DVD is burned, I go back and delete that file.
My older more expensive DVD player will not play DVD R's, but the kid's XBOX and their $30.00 DVD player play them just fine:mad:

I started out using DVD Decryptor, then DVD shrink because Decrypter made the files 7.4 gig and larger...the DVD-R's are only 4.7 gig, so I'd have to shrink them.....then I got to lookin' and saw that DVD Shrink worked for all of it.
In DVD Shrink, I do take out the foreign languages if there are any, because it'll make the file less compressed.
Seems like I recorder WeekEnd @ Bernies at 53% compressed and other movies at 86% and I can't tell the difference.

I picked up 10 DVD - R's at wal-mart for about $11.00 plus tax.

it takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half to burn, because the DVD-R's are 8X.
you can get dual layer DVD's from wal-mart now......over 7 gig disks!!!!!
but, at a price of 3 disks for $29.88, I decided not to.

I'm pleased......the LITE-ON burner was $80.00 and some change from Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart is my closest electronics store here in the woods aka BFE!

I can't get www.dvdshrink.org (http://www.dvdshrink.org) to open up for me this morning, so I will upload the zipped program to my ftp site and add the URL back to this forum in a minute. It's only 1.08 mb compressed.

hope this helps

added later:
I had originally gone to a forum with information about recording copyrighted dvd's and they said to use DVD Decryptor to strip copyright, then DVD Shrink to shrink the large file, then Nero to burn that file to a DVD-R......
I found that DVD Shrink did it all!!!!

now, I don't know much difference about the plus R's and the minus R's but, I bought the Maxell DVD minur R's from Wal-mart and have not made a coaster out of 7 burns yet:dance:

there was also a DVD minus R and a DVD plus R packaged with my Lite-On burner, I tried both of them and I don't see any difference.
I hear that the recording industry has not created the standard that makes plus R or minus R the standard.....so I guess it's just whichever one your DVD player accepts.

thanks, I'll check it out.

I think the mrbass.org has a link to it. when I searched google DVD Shrink 3.2, I came up with several sites that had the link to it, but I followed the link and it was going back to ... www.dvdshrink.org (http://www.dvdshrink.org)

also, it just may be my mozilla firefox browser that's not seeing them this morning.....it's happened before:o

looks like the link from mrbass will work, it's going to their server:worthy:

The other goodie to have in your DVD toolkit is DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com). It works when Shrink doesn't. Free, no nag, simple, etc...

I used it, but not a lot, once I found out what DVD Shrink would do.
I agree the format is pretty straighforward, but it came out with huge files....

am I doing something wrong with DVD Decrypter?

thanx
