Why are there two oil fills(i.e one on each side) on my 5.7 vortec Indmar? I understand this is sometimes done on auto engines as well.

left is for regular oil

right is for synthetic....

Since I can't get an answer I figured it out myself. It takes 15-40 oil so I will put the 15 in on one side and the 40 on the other.

With either type of oil as recommended by Bigmac, you put 2.5 qts. on each side to keep the engine in balance, if not when the boat is a planing speeds it will be lower on the right side.

no no your all wrong... its so you can fill it from on the platform or when your on the water you can fill it from inside the boat

I say someone screwed up the orders and they ended up with too many covers with oil caps, then the cost reduction team found out they could use them so they got credit for saving the cost of a valve cover......

I've never seen a car with two caps, small production lot mishaps.

OK..Here's my guess. Different engines will have different accessories or wiring blocking easy access to the oil fill. Having two locations gives you a better chance of having a clear shot depending on what options are on your engine. ???

Yea, when we ordered our boat, they knew I was lefthanded by the way I signed the down payment check, so they put the 710 cap on the port valve cover! Pure genius, that is what I call custom built!

I bet it was a mixup. The next boat in the production line got 2 valve covers without oil fills.

The owners manual says fill on the LEFT. So depending on whether you are filling a V-Drive or D-Drive or standing infront of the engine or standing in back of the engine, you will be correct. This is done to help with the not-so-bright ex-Malibu owners that recently switched to MC....:D

I bet they are high performance caps as well. Everyone knows that two are faster than one...

TMCNo1

Are the 710 caps (1)male and (1)female. If so, may have the answer, it's so you wont get them confused on which valve cover they go on.:D

I guess it is redundant, knowing that they were never that smart to begin with....Maybe I should have said "the smarter of the not so bright"...
