View Full Version : What should my next MC be???

Help me decide peeps! I am torn between what to get here! Will most likely be ordering new come Boat show time.

As most know, we are moving to Atlanta in the near future and I would surmise that our primary boating place will be Lanier. The wife doesn't ski (ok once a year on two skis) and Hailey might still be a wee bit young this year (she'll be two in July) The boats primary use since I doubt I'll get much course time on Lanier :( would be for footin, (boom, short line and long) slalom skiing, and whoever we bring that might be a wakeboarder. Oh.... don't forget the wakesurfing!! Also, it'll serve double as a cruiser.

First instinct would say 197 for sure!! However, I hear Lanier can get a little rough, and I have experienced first hand what that hull is like with 2 adults upfront in rough water. (SCARY!!) Soo..........was thinking maybe a X2 would be a good fit.
I am not forking out the cash for something like an Xstar or anything like that but a moderately loaded X2 could be in my price range.

What do ya'll think???

From what I read, the X-2 has a better slalom wake than the X9 (can anyone confirm this real life?) The X9 is a nice people boat but the slalom wake is a bit large

I agree the wake on the X-9 or 209 is kinda big, I was able to long line behind Bob's but the wake crosses were kinda scary.

I would have to go hehind the X-2 and see the wake. I kinda question the small wake size of a Vdrive.

my instinct would be that the x9 should have the better slalom wake due to weight distribution... never tried it though.

What are the actual conditions on Lanier? I'd go w/ the X-2 if it gets some serious waves going.

If there is just a rough chop, I'd go X-1.

the wake maybe smaller on the x2, but i think at the time when that was said it was referring to the old x2 now the x1. either way, if you really want a bigger MC that you can still ski behind i would stick with the x9 or the new 214. at least this boat will fit thru a slalom course & track well. unlike vdrives.

if it were me, i would just stick with the x7 or buy two boats. one big water and an older 93 190 for the course..

I love my 06 197, however, when I upgrade I want at least 1mph per $1000 up to the first 50K, and if I spend 75K or more I want 55mph or more ... luv my boat, hate the top end:( (MCX 1.26:1)

If Bu' can do it, so can MC!

Casey you just need to buy the nuclear reactor powered rocket boosters on your next one. It's only a 1.5 million dollar add on. BUT, you'll get an easy 80 mph out of it and she'll be super quiet and you'll never have to fill up again.
I hear if you buy the system over in Russia you can get it done for a lot less! :D

Yes you will.

There are enough lakes within driving distance that I wouldn't purchase a boat based on requirements of Lake Lanier. Another 45 minutes north and you are at Lake Burton. The 197 will be more than fine there. In fact it is preferred.

We had the X-2 out in some pretty rough water this year, sudden storm that blew everyone off the water. It handled better than our old Cobalt. We were amazed. Just my 2 cents.

Jeff our X10 does a descent job, many have long line behind our boat and they didn't complain, it boards okay (it boards better if you add more ballast than factory), I slalom it all the time, there is a bit of a hump so I ski at longer line lengths to get me out of the spray. I plan on getting a boom this spring and doing some more footing off the boom, thanks to you boys at MM I'm hooked and looking forward to learning more and getting better. I don't think you'll be happy with a V-drive boat. You seem a bit more serious about the sport than us, we mainly just dabble and play to have fun. Our boat is good all around it doens't really do anything great, but it does everything okay. You'll never run an X-2 through the course if you course ski. I thought Mag's 209 was great for slalom and Lance thought it boarded pretty well especially since it had no ballast when he was boarding. You may like the 214 coming out. Just remember the advise you have given to so many, what do you plan to use it for mainly? Buy a boat that will suit those needs. Test drive many, see what you like, get out there behind them and see how you like the wake/spray. I remember you mentioning many times you were going back to a close bow, you hated your open bow. Will you really be using it on the heavy chop, I'll tell you from experience on the Mississippi, our X10 handles the chop pretty well, but you'll be going slow, so if you planning on cruising the lake with other boats and they are cruisers, you'll never keep up with them. That is our problem.

Where is the none of them option? You already had a 197 and you didn't care for it (wanted a close bow again), I doubt you like the 214 any better, it's bigger. No way would I go with a V-drive. My vote go back to the 190 you really liked and stay off the lakes in the bad chop, they aren't fun anyway when the water is that rough.

Maybe this needs to be in the Proshop thread, but we haven't bought much of anything in years except the occasional generic MC item or TMC t-shirt and the like. We are still wearing stuff we got years and years ago that MC had made by Gear. They made exceptionally high quality stuff, reasonable prices, and have an outstanding art/graphics department that made some fantastic designs. We have some coats, sweatshirts, sweatsuits, jogging suits, shorts, towels, etc. that we have been wearing and using religiously for well over 10 years that look like they are new. A sweatshirt I bought 2 years ago is already coming apart, fading, coming unstitched and I now wear it as a work around the house/car wash shirt that I won't wear in public.
