Boating Life magazine already has theirs out on the news stand. Boating Life and Waterski mag use the same tests and reviews for their publications. I would assume that Waterski would soon follow. Boating Life is currently updating their website with the 2005 information and reviews. Boating Life (http://www.boatinglifemag.com)

Are they reviewing the 190 this year!

Just got mine and I'm leafing through it "as we speak"... So far there's shot of a pretty 190 from the testing. I haven't gotten that far. The boat in the "second best" ad looks good too, at least the 3 feet of it that can be seen.

Oh, I almost forgot. MB has some awful creation that looks like a deck boat with a tower on it. Haven't seen the review yet, just the ad.

The HO System 8 looks pretty cool too... One of those ski (probably the Monza) is definitely on my demo list for spring.

James, I have not received my copy yet. Which performance specs between the two boats are noteworthy?

MB = MB Sports. Not very well represented in this area. They have a dealer nearby but I think I may have only ever seen one actually privately owned in these here parts...

Malibu Response - 340hp Monsoon
0-30 mph: 3.5 sec.
0-36:4.5
Top Speed:47.2

Prostar 197: MCX 350hp.
0-30:4.5
0-36:6.2
Top Speed:43

You would think that if the Malibu accelerates that much faster that it would sacrifice top end, but it's still 4.2 mph faster.

I'd still rather have a 197, but I have had a lot of time behind a friends Response and have to admit they are quite the performer.

I also believe that the Response is designed to ride with less hull in the water.

Has anyone seen the Moomba add in the front of the buyers guide. It puts a slam on MC and the "X-Brand" for being too expensive.

The Response is quite a bit lighter than the 197...on the order of 400lbs (although I’ve heard stories that the number is closer to 600lbs). Why? Full length liner in the PS197, the Bu stops about 1/2 way. 197s also utilize a foam filled hull and stringer, the Response is hollow. Lastly is the flooring material, ours is hand laid and finished glass…from Malibu’s own web site: “Our Space Age Composite Flooring System is engineered for longevity as well as noise restraint. Fused with the Fiberglass Engine Chassis System (FibECS) the Space Age Floor plays its part in unibody construction and adds even more rigidity”…in other words it is glued in plastic sheeting. Take the tour at both factories and you’ll understand!

Wetted running surface of the 197 is significantly greater as well. Lastly the 197s hooked transom contributes to the lower top speed.

Hope that helps to clear any confusion…oh and yes my “opinion” is biased.

Thanks for the input MYMC. Makes the acceleration/speed more reasonable. I've taken the Mastercraft tour and was definitely impressed, but never been on the Bu tour, probably never will.

Hey Jrandol

You should come to the Louisville Boat show the last two weekends of Jan. The local dealer has a new 2003 197 Red white and blue, get a great deal. Also the local area tournament driver has his 2004 197 tour team boat for sale not sure on the hours.

WSM finally arrived today, and I have a prediction that the 05 MC tower will be a thing of the past come 06. Not a fan!
