View Full Version : Used boats at Mastercraft dealers

I see that many of the dealer's websites can be reached directly the mastercraft.com by entering a zip code. The sites also appear to be hosted by Mastercraft because they are all the same. The sites have used boat listings, but there is no way to search them all at one time.
I would like to see Mastercraft provide a listing of all used Mastercraft boats that are for sale at Mastercraft dealers. Many buyers for these boats are willing to drive great distances for the right boat. The information seems to be available, but not easily accessed.

Driving users to a specific website is of importantance to a dealer or any business owner. I want people to visit my website...not others. Why would I want you to buy from "joe shmo" the Malibu dealer down the street? I sent links to my MC website whenever I can. Many Mastercraft dealers use FTP FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL to load up images onto 1 website and have it linked to another, That way your inventory only needs to be uploaded 1 time. I use FTP for the TRADER ONLINE SITE that we have.

It looked to me as though he meant a search engine through multiple MC dealers for MC boats. Not other boat dealers. Thus, if I were looking for a two-year-old 197, I could go to a search engine through this board that would search for "197" through all the MC dealers nationwide. And just to be fair to the dealers, the list order would be randomly-generated with the option to rearrange it by year, price, whatever.
Now let's say I'm new to the board, and being from Texas, am less likely to have heard of BAWS than someone who lives in Florida or has done his homework and knows the name of a few out-of-state dealers, or has owned a MC for a while, or frequented this site. Sounds like this would be a good way to expose the dealers to a wider market for their used boats than they currently have.
The way it's set up now, I'd need a list of dealers and a zip code key chart. There's always boat trader, but that seems like an added expense for a dealer. It also gives the buyer the opportunity to check out the competition, which it'd seem to be in MC's interest to limit.
Jim, maybe I misunderstood your answer. Well, I know I misunderstood the last part. :)

This is what I meant, but in reference to used boats only. I will be in the market for a used Mastercraft in the future. I will want a specific model with specific features, and I will be willing to drive to get what I want. The chances of my local dealer have exactly what I want is slim. Mastercraft dealers would logically be a good source for used Mastercrafts, but I don't have a convenient way to search the dealer's used boat inventories.
It's about putting the consumer in touch with the product. I wouldn't suggest this for new boats. If I were in the market for a new boat, why wouldn't I order it from my local dealer.
I would think that all dealers would be interested in better serving potential customers buy providing this type of resource.

Andy, I think the title of the thread says it all.
1. Used Boats
2. MasterCraft dealers.

This is a great idea and is actually a direction that MC will be going. Until then the "Marketplace" section on here would be a great place to find used MC's. Especially if a majority of the dealers would post their used MC's here.

Maybe a "Links " section with MC partners like Indmar and all the dealers websites...

Dealers can post prices of their used boats, right? I think when we talked about overhauling the classifieds on the old board, a lot of people said that price, location, and pictures ought to be required information. Or maybe that was just me. I'd settle for price and phone number. But without price, I feel like they're trying to just rope me in for the sales pitch.

Most dealers have used and new boats listed on Boattrader.com
just put in the min and max dollar amount and either Mastercraft or what ever flavor you're looking to buy ie. Prostar or Prostar 190 and you will get a comprehensive list of all boats that have your "keyword" in the ad that fall into the selected price range.
With all things, due dilegence will pay off in the long run
Good luck,
T

While I agree that having the dealers list boats on MC would be nice, I agree with Farmer Ted. Whenever I start to look for any new vehicle (truck, car or boat), I go to the online sources first.

Bottom line, I think it is in both MC and its dealer's interest to link to used boats through this site. The dealers are having to pay to advertise on boat trader, and when people go to boat trader, they have the opportunity to look at other brands
It's in MC's interest to keep us in its boats, even if it's not getting the financial perk from the sale of a new boat. Does this mean that people won't look on boat trader, of course not, but an all-inclusive, company-sponsored search engine benefits everyone.

What can I say, I had a semester of French in the 5th Grade. I can say "hello," "very good," "my pencil is big and yellow," "Thank God, it's Friday," and I can count to 10.
My Spanish is slightly better.
Well I am going to sell my late '95 225 VRS with a '96 Corvette engine. About 385 Hrs. on the boat and maybe 75 hrs on the dealer re built engine. I am thinking with the MC Tandem trailer, $22,500.:(

Well the boat is sitting on it's trailer,in a storage place. I work Mon - Sat. My kids have all moved on. It seems like a waste to be paying on a boat I am not even using anymore. :(

Thanks. The Boat & MC Tandem Trailer had to be listed in the bankruptcy. So it is going back to Key Bank, unless someone wants to assume the balance of $17,500. There is 100 hrs or less on the MasterCraft Dealer rebuilt LT-1 engine. A sweet deal for someone looking to up grade to a longer wider faster boat or someone wanting to get a MC boat.:(

Last year I started the search for a used MC. I was looking for a 1997-1999 PS205. The internet proved to be my best resource and several boats I found were listed by dealers. Unfortunately I found 2 dealers who greatly misrepresented the quality of their boats. I followed all the normal to-do's before travelng to test, i.e. pictures, phone interview, faxing past maintenence records. For one boat we traveled over 900 miles to check-out. After arriving we could tell from 10 feet away the boat was just hammered. Digital images over the internet do not show detail such as worn seats, scratches in the hull etc.. After telling the dealer about my disappointment his comment was I was looking for a "garage queen" not a used boat and I would never find such a boat at the price I wanted to pay. (We found a perfect boat, in fact 3 of them at our price point). This brought up the idea, Why doesn't MC, the leader in ski boats start a certified used boat program like the car dealers started over 10 years ago. Given the choice I would always buy the used boat that has been gone over with a fine tooth comb, cleaned up, brought up to snuff with tune-up, oil change, etc and backed by MC and the dealer vs from an individual I do not know.
A while back the CEO of MC said they decided not to have a "entry" level price point such as Moomba, because their used boats served that need. I agree with his direction. Now give the used boat owner the safety net to buy MC. Give the dealers the support to invest a little in a used boat bringing it up to "MC backed" condition. This would not stop the older more used boats from being sold but offer the dealers 3 platforms to sell from. New, Used & MC Backed and Used, sold as is. A huge undertaking but not out of the question for the quality leader.
Merry Christmas to all!!

Doug, it wasn't just you... we all agreed that the price needed to be a mandatory field for the reason you state.
I REALLY like the idea of a consolidated search engine for used MC's at MC dealers, *and* the "backed by MC - certified used" idea as well. Talk about a great way to elevate the status of MC.
(But, if they're going to do it, they have to move fast, because all of the competition have now seen the idea here...;) )
